Description

Académie de la Capitale is a unique, bilingual, IB World Private School in the Ottawa/Outaouais region. Firstly, we offer an education for real life learners, beyond classroom learning, through the inquiry-based International Baccalaureate ® Primary Years Programme (PYP), for students aged 3 to 12. The PYP identifies a body of knowledge (in the disciplines of Language, Math, Science and Technology, Social Studies and the Arts) for students to explore, but also balances that knowledge with a focus on transdisciplinary skills (social, communication, research, self-management, thinking), concepts (form, function, causation, connection, perspective, responsibility, reflection) and attitudes (curiosity, creativity, independence, cooperation, commitment, integrity, empathy, tolerance, respect, enthusiasm, confidence, appreciation). The PYP encourages its students to become inter-culturally and internationally minded citizen. Secondly, within the PYP, the AcadeCap Preschool, with a 12 month option, is specifically designed to meet the needs of the 3 to 5 year old child. The flexibility of the PYP Curriculum for the early years, allows teachers to support the development of children’s interests, self-esteem and confidence, and to respond to spontaneous events that occur in the classroom. The children are encouraged to question, explore, experiment, manipulate and discover. In a secure and comfortable environment, the children become confident learners and the immersion in the French language is natural and spontaneous. Thirdly, our Intermediate Secondary Programme is distinctive, as it promotes in-depth study of the Ontario curriculum, while broadening the perspectives of learners who link subjects and study them through various conceptual lenses such as innovation, the environment, social sciences, and the learning process. This approach allows students to recognize the relationships between school subjects and the world around them, to question and to reflect upon the implications of action, to see themselves as a positive contribution to their surroundings. Students coming to the Intermediate Secondary Programme from the PYP find a natural continuation in their learning process, while students coming from traditional approaches experience an unlocking of their learning abilities and a new enthusiasm towards school. Implementation of Grade 11 and Grade 12 will follow. All AcadeCap learners are engaged in experiential learning to transcend boundaries. L’Académie de la Capitale est une école du Baccalauréat International (IB) unique et bilingue dans la région d'Ottawa et de l'Outaouais. Le Programme primaire (PP), allant de la pré-maternelle à la 6e année, emploie l’approche du questionnement qui nous permet d’offrir un enseignement allant au-delà de la salle de classe et s’appliquant directement à la vie. A l'AcadéCap, le programme préscolaire, intégrant la démarche de la recherche du PP, s'offre sur une période de 10 mois ou de 12 mois. La soupless de ce dernier permet aux éducateurs d'encourager le développement des intérêts du jeune enfant, l'estime et la confiance en soi, et de répondre aux évènements spontanés qui se produisent dans son environnement scolaire. Enfin, notre programme du niveau secondaire intermédiaire, lui, se distingue par son étude approfondie du curriculum de l'Ontario, tout en élargissant les perspectives des apprenants qui établissent des liens entre les sujets et qui abordent ces derniers par le biais de différentes lentilles conceptuelles telles que l'innovation, l'environnement, les sciences sociales et le processus d'apprentissage.
