Description

Founded in 1884, The American Academy of Dramatic Arts is the first conservatory for actors in the English-speaking world. Over 125 years after its founding, The Academy has grown to become the nation’s foremost acting conservatory, with campuses in both New York and Los Angeles and an esteemed group of alumni who have been nominated for 96 Oscars, 241 Emmys and 84 Tonys. The Academy accepts only the most talented students from all over the globe, who are taught by a world-renowned faculty consisting of working professionals and master instructors. At the conclusion of their conservatory-level training, the most promising students are given the opportunity to audition for The Academy Company, which offers advanced training to a small number of students and acts as an important vehicle to usher graduates into the professional world of performing arts. Led by veteran acting instructor Betty Karlen, The Company performs a wide number of plays ranging from classic to contemporary, which are performed before an invited audience of Academy guests, agents, casting directors and other industry professionals. Company members also take part in seminars and workshops with prominent alumni and other notable professionals, who share their knowledge and experiences of working in the entertainment industry. The Company is proud of its role in training the next generation of award winning actors, and looks forward to witnessing its graduates follow in the footsteps of other acclaimed Academy alumni such as Robert Redford, Kim Cattrall, Paul Rudd and many others.
