Follow the ACLU-MN on Twitter: https://twitter.com/ACLUMN The ACLU of Minnesota was founded in 1952 as the Minnesota Civil Liberties Union. Its mission from the very beginning has been to fight to protect the civil liberties of Minnesotans through litigation, public education, and lobbying related to legislation that impacts your civil liberties and civil rights. Four underlying principles guide our mission: 1. We are an impartial and nonpartisan organization. Our policies do not embrace any particular political philosophy. 2. We represent individuals without regard to the popularity of their views with the understanding that freedom of speech should be available to everyone. It goes without saying that we never seek to condone or promote unpopular views. Our only mission is to defend against attacks on your civil liberties. 3. We are a nonprofit organization that refuses to solicit or accept government funding. Our primary client is the U.S. Constitution's Bill of Rights. 4. We are an affiliate of the American Civil Liberties Union. Together we coordinate our organizational philosophy, our approach to litigation, and our funding initiatives.

We are supported by volunteer attorneys who donate their time and expertise to our cause. THROUGH PUBLIC EDUCATION - Educating and engaging the public is key to our mission. We seek to educate Minnesotans about their civil liberties by providing schools with educational materials, by speaking in public on civil liberties, and by mobilizing thousands of individuals to advocate for their rights. THROUGH LOBBYING - By drafting effective legislation and testifying on bills with civil liberties implications, we ensure that the government does not succeed in infringing on your rights.
