Today, there are more refugees, asylum seekers and displaced people worldwide than at any time since World War II. That’s more than 50 million people forced to flee their homes to escape conflict and disaster. They are the world’s most vulnerable people; mothers and fathers struggling to feed their children; sons and daughters missing out on an education; people dying for want of basic medical care that we take for granted in Australia; and families who, after losing everything, are not getting the support they deserve to rebuild their lives. It’s a terrible injustice. And one that we can, and must, overcome. We believe that when people all over the world work together, big changes really are possible. We’re passionate about building a better world. And that’s why we’ve made it our mission to act in partnership with other passionate people, like you, across the globe to achieve safety, justice and dignity in communities threatened by conflict and natural disaster. We don’t think there is any task more important. Through your support of Act for Peace, you are part of a network of more than 140 organisations across 130 countries – the ACT Alliance. It’s a global grassroots coalition for action. Together we’re working to confront injustice and create positive, sustainable change in communities threatened by conflict and natural disaster. By working together we can share knowledge, resources, speak with a louder voice and, ultimately, achieve more impact. Thank you for joining us. We believe local people are best placed to help their communities identify their problems and create their own solutions. That’s why we work with local partner organisations to achieve change. Our partners are set-up, staffed and run by people who come from the communities in which they work. They speak the language, they understand the culture, and they know the people that influence decisions in the area. They have a long-term commitment to the local people, because they are the local people.

Bowel Cancer Australia's vision is to have an everlasting impact where no one dies from bowel cancer and all those diagnosed receive the support they need. Charity initiatives such as Bowel Cancer Awareness Month, BowelScreen Australia and the Rear in Gear Program we raise awareness among health professionals and the community about the importance of early detection and intervention in the successful treatment of bowel cancer. Through our Peer-to-Peer Support Network, we provide support, resources and advocacy for bowel cancer patients, their carers, close relatives and friends. To do all this, we rely on public support.
