Description

Hello, I am Dr. Aga Silbert. My specialty is Cardiology. 18 years ago, when I became a doctor, I wanted to treat people, as time passed, I learned that treating is not enough - now I understand that my role as a physician is to help patients heal themselves. My special interest is in preventative cardiology for men and women and women's heart disease. I have had the privilege to build and direct the Women's Heart Center at Provena Hospital. My office is in West Dundee, IL. I admit and follow patients at St. Joseph, Sherman and Good Shepherd Hospitals. A brief summary of my philosophy as a physician, are four key points: Strong bi-directional almost unlimited communication with the patient and other care providers Treat each patient as an individual with a unique composition Encourage each patient to sit in the driver's seat when it comes to their health care Understanding that treatment and healing must focus on the whole body and mind and that all the systems must work together I strive to improve heart health through better identification of risks and the personalization of each patient's therapy. To address each patient's unique needs, we offer sophisticated cardiovascular risk assessments through detailed and extensive history evaluation, genetic, metabolic and advanced cardiovascular testing, which includes echocardiography, stress testing and vascular testing. Through my personal experience, I learned how difficult it is for patients to navigate the maze of hospital scheduling, insurance obstacles and logistics mishandling. For that reason, my office is designed to help our patients find their way through this complicated process. We take as much burden as possible off of your shoulders, by helping schedule appointments for tests, obtain authorizations from insurance and coordinating care with other providers. It is hard enough to be sick, patients should not have to struggle with a complicated system. We make it easier. When I was on the receiving end of medical care, I learned how important it is to be treated as an individual, not as a patient in room 17 with disease x, but as a person with unique and specific needs both medical, emotional and personal. Every patient has a unique make-up which must be explored and understood before determining the most appropriate therapy. Treatment plans must realistically understand an individual, their preferences, needs and capabilities in order to have success and be fulfilled. Sometimes, patients have an opportunity to heal themselves and move away from medicines, their costs and side effects. Change isn't always easy and we are not always prepared for it. That's why my practice provides health coaching to help patients take advantage of non-medical opportunities to positively improve their health. Our coaches will work with you side by side to help you understand new life style options, such as nutritional counseling, exercise, stress management, breaking bad habits, and counseling. We often find that the core issues that lead to heart disease are not necessarily medical but the way we live our lives. If there is an opportunity to live healthier through life style modification, you have the chance to be happier, feel good and avoid unnecessary medicines. I find many great examples every year in the Better Your Program, which I lead through the women's heart center in partnership with the American Heart Association. Each year, hundreds of women apply to participate and five to ten luck women transform themselves, their hearts and their healt ADVANCED PREVENTIVE CARDIOLOGY OFFERS: Advanced personalized Cardiology unique to your needs An old-fashioned doctor-patient relationship - we're at your side Life coaching to help you reduce risk and help you get better PERSONALIZATION I strive to improve heart health through better identification of risks and the personalization of each patient's therapy. Cardiology Procedures We provide both In-office Cardiology services and Cardiology services provided in the hospital. The Advanced Preventative Cardiology team offers a wide variety of tests and procedures that help diagnose and treat heart disease. The election of which and how many of these tests to perform is dependent on several criteria, including: A patient's risk factors History of heart problems Current symptoms The doctor's interpretation of these criteria. Each patient is carefully assessed to determine the potential problem and a set of tests is custom designed to meet the needs of each patient. Our cardiology team utilizes a full range of diagnostic tools, typically beginning with simpler, less invasive techniques, then progressing to more complex, invasive technology when warranted. Examples of noninvasive tests include: Resting electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG) Chest X-ray Holter monitor (ambulatory electrocardiogram) Echocardiogram Exercise stress test Computed tomography (CT) scan Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) Examples of nuclear imaging tests include: MUGA scan Thallium stress test Pharmacologic stress test Examples of other imaging tests include: Stress echocardiography Transesophageal echocardiogram (TEE) Cardiac catheterization (cath) - also known as coronary angiography Your cardiologist may choose non-invasive testing that can be performed in the office which can demonstrate abnormalities in the shape, function or electrical system of your heart. More invasive testing may be performed if a problem is identified, and your cardiologist will discuss this with you in depth. Transesophageal Electrocardiography (TEE): an imaging test which uses a probe passed through the esophagus to view the heart, specifically the heart valves.
