NETWORK FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF CHILDREN OF AFRICAN DESCENT Our Mission- We exist to strengthen the cultural connections within communities of African descent that promote, sustain, and enhance the healthy development of our children. Our work is about strengthening four critical cultural connections IDENTITY FAMILY - COMMUNITY - SCHOOLS Identity Connects children to knowledge of self (which is the foundation for all learning) by giving them the skills and tools needed in order to access information and resources, acquiring knowledge of self within the context of culture, heritage, and community Family- Nurture the connections between children and their parents/guardians and help parents help their children achieve academic, cultural, and social success. Community- Build a network of families and community groups in order to collectively raise and educate future generations with a conscious appreciation for cultural heritage, values, and traditions of African peoples Schools- Connect families and the cultural community to educational institutions, helping teachers, schools, and systems broaden their thinking about how to better serve children and families of African descent. 1. Our primary purpose is to promote and disseminate information on ancient and contemporary African history and culture. Our goal is to amass a body of African centered knowledge that can be used to help awaken the African mind and help liberate Black people from the oppression they face daily. This information when interpreted in the proper context and put into action by African people, will lead to a more unified and culturally progressive African community in Dallas and throughout the African Diaspora. 2. To bring into closer touch with one another the peoples of Afrikan descent throughout the world. We reject all manifestations of oppression (From North America to South Afrika to Palestine), globalization, monoculturalization, cultural imperialism, gender suppression, intolerance, religious and ethnic hatred. Our primary objective is a Pan-Afrikan projection and protection of Afrikan culture and ideology by a process of Afrikan dialectics. And in this mission we create new opportunities for human potential by removing inequity that has stifled the hope and contributions of humanity.
