Girls Football: We have expressed an interest in entering a girls football team in the AFL North East competition for 2017. Age group 13 to 18yrs with an allowance to include some 19 or 20 year olds. There is a process involved and approval required. As well as an alignment with an existing football club to facilitate entry. If you have a desire to play football let us know. This will not impact on other sporting pursuits and will result in a lot of fun and the development of skills and knowledge of the game. There is also a structured pathway for talented female players to represent their region and state at carnivals run by the AFL.

So far we have had young Adults from 4 different schools in the area and mostly from year 12. It's amazing to see the difference in them from the moment they walk in the room to that when they walk out. They are truly buzzing, ready to start the day on a high. Last week there was even chatter on Chemistry with kids helping each other out. What a great world. So get your selves (or your kids) up out of bed ready to supercharge your day. I promise you will feel amazing. Let's kick obesity and mental health in the butt. Oh and I've decided the whole of June will be free. Now there's no excuse, see you at 7.05 am

Athletic excellence program: There has been considerable progress with this. Initial feedback from athletes and parents has been fantastic. We commenced the program with u/16 and A grade netballers and over the next few weeks will extend it to some of our AFL athletes and hockey players. Gradually extending it over all sports. A small part of the program is gps tracking on match days. If anyone is interested in looking at gps results, let me know and I will log you into the site. I will publish more information as we progress. This is an initiative of Albury Sports Academy taking athlete performances to a new level.

Albury Rep Netball: Congratulations to all players and coaches. Outstanding achievements at Sunday's competition in Shepparton. All three teams are now competing in the state final in Melbourne. Under 13, under 15 and under 17. In the reserve division Albury had a team in every grand final. These results are a reflection of the hard work and effort put in by coaches, players and parents to the Albury rep program.

We will be conducting fitness testing over the next few weeks. Whilst we will be completing the standard tests used by most sporting bodies. It is important to understand that we need to acquire information at other levels. Scanning will assist this process and add invaluable information over the journey. The standard physical tests sometimes lack the relevance they are designed for, especially for those athletes who are coping with maturation and differing growth rates. Knowing and understanding information on % body fat, nutrition, bone mineral density, skeletal muscle mass and peak height velocity is important. An added advantage will be monitoring the status of an athlete's risk for bone mineral density issues and bone injury. Overall the purpose will be to assess the relationship of these measures and their associations with adolescent athlete development. This information will be utilised to advance our programs and most importantly maintain motivation levels through growth and coordination changes. To simply categorise progress as an increase in physical literacy is too one dimensional. Growth and maturation is multifaceted. We have to consider each athlete as an individual with different DNA, growth rates, muscle mass, mental skills and varying medical histories. Keep in mind when completing these tests and interpreting results that they are useful in determining increases in physical literacy given that other factors remain constant. Keep in mind also that our philosophy is based around Long Term Athlete Development. The more physically mature athletes do very well in their physical tests. State, representative and national athletes are easy to identify. The 100's of athletes who have the talent inside waiting for it to surface also need to be encouraged and nurtured. Too many talented athletes give it away. Scanning will assist all athletes to gain a better understanding of how they are progressing.
