Description
The Amazon: A Global Treasure Rainforests sustain us. They help regulate the global climate and are vital to maintaining the earth's fragile balance. The Amazon rainforest is the world's largest and most biodiverse tropical rainforest, covering an area larger than the continental United States. It houses one-third of the Earth's plant and animal species and produces one-fifth of all its flowing fresh water. Nearly 400 distinct indigenous peoples depend on the Amazon rainforest for their physical and cultural survival. At current rates of deforestation, nearly 50 percent of the Amazon could be lost or severely degraded by the year 2020, and the vast majority will no longer be in a pristine state. With global deforestation contributing 20–25 percent of all greenhouse gas emissions, Amazon Watch and our indigenous partners are providing a service to all humanity as we together seek to defend the rainforest. Each of us can take action. We may be the last generation that has a chance to protect this precious gem of our world's cultural and ecological heritage – an irreplaceable source of life and inspiration. Our Mission Amazon Watch is a nonprofit organization founded in 1996 to protect the rainforest and advance the rights of indigenous peoples in the Amazon Basin. We partner with indigenous and environmental organizations in campaigns for human rights, corporate accountability and the preservation of the Amazon's ecological systems. Our Vision We envision a world that honors and values cultural and biological diversity and the critical contribution of tropical rainforests to our planet's life support system. We believe that indigenous self-determination is paramount, and see that indigenous knowledge, cultures and traditional practices contribute greatly to sustainable and equitable stewardship of the Earth. We strive for a world in which governments, corporations and civil society respect the collective rights of indigenous peoples to free, prior and informed consent over any activity affecting their territories and resources. We commit, in the spirit of partnership and mutual respect, to support our indigenous allies in their efforts to protect life, land, and culture in accordance with their aspirations and needs. Amazon Watch is a nonprofit organization supporting the indigenous peoples of the Amazon basin to protect their rights and tropical rainforest territories.

The Cambodian Educational Network is a voluntary organization based in the United States dedicated to ameliorating suffering in rural Cambodia by building school , provide children school supply and scholarship. Improving Life Through Education. The Cambodian Educational Network was started in 2000 in California by members of the Cambodian-American community with the goal of helping to rebuild self-reliant and safe communities in rural Cambodia in the face of their most pressing issues. To that end, CEN concentrated its early efforts and community-based fundraising on: supplying seed money, organizational support and ongoing funding for The Healthcare Centre for Children, located in Phnom Penh, which has helped large numbers of parentless and abandoned children women facing violence, abuse or escaping prostitution people, especially children, with HIV or AIDS starting the Elderly Women's Centre, located in Kosh Knor, Tonle Bati, for those whose families have been lost tree-planting in a rural deforested area to prevent erosion around a dam site, improve water quality, and create local employment as well as a long-term supply of wood Since then, the Cambodian Educational Network has expanded the scope of its assistance to include a greater number of projects aimed at promoting sustainable local economies. It has also, as of 2008 when joined by Willie Uy as special projects coordinator, moved into the area of emergency aid under his lead. Willie started his humanitarian work providing emergency relief in Cambodia in 2002. Using his personal savings to finance his early operations, Willie has visited many remote villages in Cambodia, distributing rice and other foodstuffs, essential household items, housing materials, medicine, materials and financing for building safe wells, and tools for doing emergency work as well as those for building an ongoing livelihood. Willie's personal story exemplifies the motivation many Cambodian-Americans have in becoming involved in or supporting aid organizations operating in Cambodia. As a young boy, Willie lost his mother and was separated from his father as a result of the 1975-1979 regime, becoming both homeless and being reduced to begging and working day-to-day for his meals. Successfully emigrating to the U.S. as a refugee, Willie vowed to return to Cambodia when he had achieved financial stability in the U.S. (he is now a successful PC in Silicon Valley), and to work to help other Cambodians and their communities overcome their tragedy and suffering.
