Description

Located on the idyllic cobblestone corner of Fulton & Front Streets, Ambrose Hall is a rustic chic craft beer hall, which embodies the look and feel of the historic downtown South Street Seaport. An ever-changing rotation of 12 seasonal and locally-sourced brews are served from two custom-built black iron tap towers in front of a curated selection of artisanal and small batch whiskey, scotch, bourbon, gin, and tequila offerings. The food menu compliments the robust ale selection with gourmet bar snack such as kettle-cooked chips smothered in beer blended melted cheese, eight signature baguette sliders, pressed and open faced sandwiches, German-style Bratwurst from Schaller & Webber Charcuterie, and more. Signature cocktails such as The Ambrose, Stow Away, and After Math round out the offerings with light, refreshing takes on bourbon, gin, and tequila. Minimally designed to preserve the character of the historic Schermerhorn Row building, the bar features original concrete floors, as well as fully exposed timber columns and ceiling joists. Oriented so that patrons can enjoy the view of Front and Fulton Streets while seated, and constructed of raw materials such as reclaimed timber and steel, it invokes the industrial history of the building, while giving passing pedestrians an unconventional, backstage view of a working bar. Ambrose Hall itself is named in dedication to the nearby Lightship Ambrose, one of the few remaining intact lightships, which served as the sentinel beacons marking the Ambrose Channel, New York’s main shipping channel. Retired by the U.S. Coast Guard in 1964, the Ambrose has been moored at nearby Pier 16, since being donated to the South Street Seaport Museum in 1968 and declared a National Historic Landmark in 1969. Designed by Walsh Walsh Studio, an architecture and design firm founded in 2009 by Victoria Partridge Walsh in 2009, the venue is a re-invention of the former Brookstone space at the South Street Seaport, which was destroyed by Hurricane Sandy. Ambrose Hall is another property owned and operated by The Lure Group, the masterminds behind Beekman Beer Garden, Governors Beach Club and Slate in NYC.
