Description

Since 1982, the Atlanta Chapter of the American Association of Blacks in Energy (AABE) has been developing energy professionals, building the next generation of talent and investing in our communities. The Chapter includes members from several, large energy corporations, many of them with headquarters or major regional hubs in Atlanta. Among them are Siemens, AGL Resources, GE, Georgia Power, and Georgia Natural Gas. The Chapter is one of 11 AABE Chapters in the southeast region, and it has approximately 150 members. It is a strong, viable Chapter with committed leaders and dedicated members. The goals of the Atlanta Chapter are as follows: • Increase awareness of energy-related issues within our communities • Award scholarships to students interested in pursuing energy-related careers • Provide value-add programming to our membership • Support the agenda of the national office of AABE These goals are designed to incorporate activities sponsored by the national office of AABE to impact the community through student activities, mentoring programs, and educational forums and to provide opportunities for leadership and service for members. AABE Atlanta’s areas of focus are: Career and Professional Development - Facilitate business and networking interactions that grow our people. Scholarships and Awards – Award scholarships annually to outstanding minority students who plan to pursue higher education, especially in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Awareness – Communicate the importance of energy to our members, the community, and other stakeholders, and position AABE as a resource for important issues through various media. Energy Policy Development – Develop a reputation as a resource for important energy policy making.
