Happy Weekend-eve! For a lot of us, our favorite shots are the ones that start off with an 'oops' or 'hmm'. They're the images we may not have meant to take, but darn it they're great! Don't forget to get out and have fun with your photography this weekend and show your favorite images some love by having them printed at Apertures Photo!

Living in Oklahoma, we are lucky to have mild, predictable weather patterns. Oh wait. We're the opposite of that. Chances are you'll get caught in the rain some time this summer, so be prepared with something better designed than a plastic grocery bag (and it looks a lot cooler too!). Rainsleeves from OP/TECH USA are a great item to have tucked in your camera bag for those chances of rain. And did you see the USA in their name? Yep, they're a family owned, US company and we have carried their products for many years. We have a lot of reasons to like Rainsleeves and think that you should too! Rainsleeves will be 25% OFF today (6/2) through next Thursday (6/9) so stock up AND save at Apertures Photo!

Ever wonder what we get up to in our Applied Photography classes? Well, here are a couple of images from Travis Edwards during our recent Creative Lighting and Portraiture class. Aside from learning different lighting and posing techniques, location and composition are also topics. Want to make the best of a less than ideal location? The photo on the right was taken on the fence in our back alley - bet you wouldn't have guessed that! Keep up with our class schedules by checking our school website http://ow.ly/TXwk300MrEM or follow us on Facebook!

It's Finally Friday! (not that we've been counting down to the weekend or anything) We're definitely fans of Mr. Adams' work here at Apertures and we couldn't agree more with his sentiment. So where do you like to shoot in Tulsa and around Oklahoma? We would love for you to share some of your favorite spots with the rest of our photographic friends!

We will be closed today (Saturday, May 27) and Monday in observance of Memorial Day (and a bit of a long weekend). We would also like to take a moment to thank Troy Cheaney for his service in our country's military - Troy does all of our Photoshop and restoration work back in the lab, so if you haven't seen him in the shop that is why. So thank you Troy, and thank you to all of our customers who have served as well. We look forward to seeing everyone (that means you!) on Tuesday for regular business. Have a safe weekend!

Happy Friday, all! We're obviously a bit partial to Ansel Adams here at Apertures Photo, but the man really knows what he is talking about. After the rush of the week, slow down and enjoy the long weekend by taking some photos of family and friends. When you love your subject, it's easy to love your photos (and don't forget to get them printed!).

Tuesday Photo Tip from your friends at Apertures Photo - Tulsa: Want to get your external flash off the top of your camera but aren't quite ready to invest in radio triggers? Try using a slave! A photo slave is triggered by a flash of light (from the pop-up flash on your camera). The red patch on the front 'sees' the light and sends a signal to your flash to fire. Your flash will have to be set to Manual for this to work, but it will work (try setting it on 1/16-1/8 power to start). By doing this, you can create dimension in your portraits by creating a ratio (lighter and darker sides of the face)! Have more questions? Call or come by and we would be more than happy to help you out!

TGIMM! Thank Goodness It's Macro Monday! This week's shot was sent to us by Travis Edwards (http://www.travisedwards.org). Can you tell that is a rusting pipe in the image? We didn't know until Travis told us. Thank you for your submission, Travis, and remember to send your macro shots to info@aperturesphoto.com (you don't have to be a professional)!

Are you making photographs or just taking pictures? As we rush into the weekend, we would like to remind all of our photographic friends to slow down and enjoy what you do - particularly if it is photography. The experience of making the image is just as important as the image itself, so take your time and be in the moment. And then click the shutter.

Tuesday Photo Tip from Apertures Photo - Tulsa : Have a filter stuck on your lens? One trick we use here to remove stuck filters is to use a thick rubber band over the filter for more grip. While it doesn't work in every case (drop impact occasionally does too much damage) this trick does have a high success rate making the thick rubber band one of the great unsung heroes of the camera bag. Don't let a stuck filter get you down while you're out and about - Shoot thoughtfully and carry a thick rubber band!

Tuesday Photo Tip: This week's tip comes from Photoflex, a long-time vendor of ours who specializes in lighting and light modifiers. This video demonstrates the techniques and types of equipment needed to create evenly exposed photos in very bright outdoor light - something we are all familiar with during Oklahoma summers. We hope you find this tip helpful! Feel free to call us with any questions or sign up for Jeff's Creative Lighting and Portraiture class to learn more about off-camera flash!
