The Art Gallery of Regina is an independent, public gallery located in the Neil Balkwill Civic Arts Centre in Regina. The Gallery features contemporary art work with an emphasis on Saskatchewan artists. In addition to the art exhibitions, the Gallery offers an extensive public education program including informational and hands-on workshops, lectures, visiting artist events, and demonstrations.
The Gallery opened as an experimental satellite of the Norman Mackenzie Gallery in 1974 under the name Rosemont Art Gallery and in 1976 it became an independent non-profit organization. The Gallery entered into a partnership arrangement with the City of Regina in 1984 to take over the gallery space in the Neil Balkwill Civic Arts Centre. After 30 years in operation, the name was changed to the Art Gallery of Regina in 2005 to better reflect the scope of the organization and its role in the community. The Neil Balkwill Civic Art Centre is a busy studio facility owned and operated by the City of Regina. The building is located along Wascana Creek in Regina's Les Sherman Park at the junction of College Avenue and Elphinstone Street. Access to the parking lot is available from 15th Avenue and McTavish Street. The facility is entirely wheelchair accessible.
