Description

For the last ten years Arts@Trinity has operated successfully as a community arts centre within Holy Trinity Church. It regularly hosts a range of arts events from concerts to exhibitions. It has a strong community ethos in offering a space for young, new and aspiring artists, musicians and actors to perform, and community groups to meet and run workshops particularly for the young and disadvantaged. From lunch time concerts, big bands, gigs, to exhibitions, film screenings and lectures, Arts@Trinity has provided Leeds with an eclectic range of entertainment opportunities, and performers the opportunity for exposure to new and critical audiences. Arts@Trinity is facing a unique opportunity. The building works which have surrounded the Church for 5 years have come to an end and the whole area in front and to the side has been repaved and opened up. The main entrance opens out onto a wide concourse that allows access from Boar Lane to the new Trinity Centre and the Headrow. Though Holy Trinity Church is still a worshipping church within the Parish of Leeds, Arts@Trinity is an independent charitable company, limited by guarantee, which was set up (by the Parish Council) originally to bring use to a city centre church that was losing its congregation. Arts@Trinity now uses the church regularly and can offer the space reasonably priced or in some cases for free to artists and musicians who are trying to make a name for themselves. A refurbishment programme, paid for by donations and the church’s own repair fund, has created a flexible space suitable for corporate dining, weddings, exhibitions or concerts, and is the home of the 9 Artists in Residence. The church hall also has been refurbished to provide kitchen and toilet facilities. Arts@Trinity will remain at the core, though separate from the Church, providing quality entertainment and offering new talent the chance to perform.
