General Info

At Speed Motorsports was founded in 1996 with an initial foray into Porsche Club Racing. The team instantly achieved very strong successes and in 1997 branched out into SCCA Regional and National events with outstanding results. In 1998, the team expanded its staffing and campaigned extensively throughout the U.S. during 1999 and 2000. After 13 events, At Speed Motorsports' lead driver/team owner Bob Miller had won or finished second in all but one race. Sponsorship was provided by Ford Excursion, The Net Investor, McCormick & Company, and other firms throughout this time period. 2000 saw a further expansion by the team when it entered the professional World Challenge GT Series. While only exploring the competition with 3 races, the team's highest finish was a respectable 15 th place with Miller driving. 2001 began with the announcement of At Speed's intention to run a full World Challenge GT season after securing sponsorship from Pharmacia Corporation's Rogaine brand. In addition, the team created the Rogaine Hair Raising Pass of the Day for World Challenge Television coverage to guarantee a strong motorsports presence for the Rogaine name. At Speed's season ended with Miller's winning the GT Rookie of the Year honor, The Borla Performance Award, and finishing 9 th overall. His top finish was 5 th at Laguna Seca. Throughout 2002, At Speed Motorsports continued in The World Challenge GT series with Rogaine as its primary corporate sponsor. As its growth demanded, the team added several key staff members hailing from Formula One and NASCAR. The year saw memorable battles between Miller and Derek Bell and the team added Greg Merril to its driver lineup. Miller finished 10 th overall out of 47 entrants with a season high finish of 7th at Trois-Rivieres. He also won the Rogaine Hair Raising Pass of the Day at the Washington , D.C. event. Merril finished 13 th overall with a season high of 9 th. In 2004, At Speed engaged in the development of the Volvo S60 R under the sponsorship of Volvo Cars North America. The challenge was to design and construct S60 R's to compete in the Speed World Challenge GT class. This monumental effort resulted in the completion of two prototypes, one of which ran the last three events of the 2004 season in the skillful hands of legendary driver Derek Bell, the five-time Le mans 24-hour winner. The second ran the last two events driven by up-and-coming star Jameson Riley, the youngest driver in the World Challenge GT series. In 2005, At Speed developed the second-generation S60 R for World Challenge GT, designated the 2005 model. The first of these ran in the first three events of the season, alongside one of the older 2004 prototypes. The second made it's debut at round four, at Mid-Ohio. The two cars are piloted by the two returning drivers, Bell and Riley. At Speed also worked on a new design based on the 2004 model, which debut late in 2005. The ultimate goal was to add two of these cars, to be driven by owner/driver Bob Miller, 2001 World Challenge Rookie-of-the-Year, and former Skip Barber Chief Instructor and Formula Renault winner Paul Gerrard. Also in 2005, At Speed Motorsports extended its reach in racing by opening a new, modern race shop in Savage, Maryland to provide services and sales to other race teams. The shop offers full service development and support for race cars of all types and sales of various performance parts and products. During 2006-2007, At Speed saw drastic changes in every aspect of the company. We opened our new shop, located in Hanover, MD. This state of the art facility brought new changes, new customers, new technicians, and a whole new outlook to the industry. At Speed reached out to not only race customers, but also to street car customers, ranging from Porsche, BMW, and Audi. For professional racing, At Speed campaigned the number 28 car in the 2007 Grand-Am Rolex GT series, piloted by Ian Baas and Mark White. In 2008, At Speed Motorsports ran one car, a 2008 Porsche GT3 Cup Car in the Speed Challenge GT class. Phillip Martien was the driver of the number 7 car, a rookie to professional racing. At Speed is currently focusing more on the street car side of the industry. With the new alignment rack, engine room, and tire machines, At Speed is hoping to make an even bigger footprint in the automotive community. In the following years, At Speed has become more involved with street cars while still supporting those customers that require support for their race cars. Our street car support includes basic maintenance and service, as well as, performance upgrades. Upgrades include superchargers, exhausts, suspensions, etc. In October 2012, At Speed was purchased by one of its customers. At Speed will continue to expand its offerings and strive to build the quality and honesty that its customers deserve.
