REGISTRATION and RULES: Mile High Band Tournament Spring of 2014 First Round starting May 30,31,1 The purpose of the music tournament is to: · provide constructive feedback for Christian artists who wish to improve their performance; · give counsel, support and direction for artists seeking to develop their music ministry; · provide knowledge about how the music industry works; and · provide exposure to Christian music industry leaders. Each artist will select one of the following music categories: Rock/Alternative Rock/Modern Rock/R&B/Blues Hardcore/Rapcore/Rap/Hip Hop/Punk/Ska/Emo Pop/Praise Rock/Acoustic/Gospel/Jazz/Reggae/Contemporary/Country/Acappella Grand Prize: The grand prize winner will receive 50 copies of a fully packaged fully produced 3 song EP. They will play main stage at Christian music venues and festivals, Summer of 2014. Their EP package will be shopped to key industry people in the USA and they will receive song rotation on local Christian radio stations. Runner Up: The runner up will play main stage at Christian music venues and festivals, Summer of 2014. . They will receive a gift certificate towards recording a demo as well as non-cash prizes. Gift certificates and other non-cash prizes from our sponsors will be awarded to the highest scoring group each night. Entry Fee: All entry fees help to pay for judges and prizes. The entry fee is $100 for Bands and $50.00 for Rappers and solo artist. Out-of-Town Bands: Please note that the number of out-of-town bands will be limited. Dates: The tournament will be in the first quarter of Spring of 2014 and will run 3– 4 weeks. Confirmed start date: May30,31 2014 The Pre-Tournament Meeting: One representative of each band will be required to attend a brief meeting at THE PEAK( Location and time to be announced). If you have a conflict please call in advance to make other arrangements. Set Time: The set time for preliminary rounds are 15 - 20 minutes. Times will vary for semi and final rounds based on judges and industry executives. Scheduling: Depending on the number of entries, but all bands rappers and solo artist will perform the first weekend . . . first come, first served! Equipment: All artists will use our house engineer and we will provide the sound and lighting equipment. Please bring and use your own gear (i.e. amps, drums, etc.) unless otherwise advised. For the semi-finals and finals all bands will use house drum kit. Please bring your own throne, pedal and cymbals. Tunes: We ask that you perform/play only original Christian music. (In other words, secular cover tunes or secular cover tunes that have been redone by a Christian artist are not allowed). Changes in words or music to secular cover tunes are also not allowed. You may do/redo praise and worship songs or hymns or Christian cover tunes. We require that all lyrics and/or a brief testimony reflect the fact that you are a Christian artist. Submission of this application confirms your agreement and support of our mission and that your performance will demonstrate that support. Please submit a copy of your lyrics with your application. Pre-recorded tracks are allowed for vocal groups/soloists. Please note that industry executives look for creativity and originality in song writing. Concert Promotion: We encourage everyone to take the opportunity to really promote themselves among family and friends. The number of people who show up to see you is soley based on your promotion. We will distribute posters and flyers but will not be able to include band names and play times. You can have the most awesome ministry and/or music, but if no one comes to hear you, then nothing really gets accomplished. For those of you interested in a record label, audience draw is very important. You receive extra points toward your score for every 25 people you bring. Judging: For preliminary rounds judging will be done by local radio personalities and local musicians who specialize in the different music categories. For the semi-finals and finals, we will bring in some key industry leaders. It is one of our goals to provide you with exposure to industry executives so that you can have the opportunity to ask questions, get advice and discuss a record deal if it is appropriate. The music tournament is an awesome opportunity for you to discover your strengths, work on your weaker points and meet other musicians. The experience alone is well worth participating. In addition, this is the primary way THE PEAK will audition artists for our upcoming regular schedule and for opening slots with national acts. It is our desire to help you reach your potential as musicians, to give all artists in the tournament experience and exposure and to help those called to the national scene succeed. Even if you are not interested in a record deal, the tournament will expose your music and ministry to many area youth pastors and promoters.
