Description

A drop-in center focused on not only health, but building lasting relationships with those in need, in order to gain understanding and collaborate together for the better good. Our focus is to be a welcoming, safe space for those experiencing disparities in the inner city of Minneapolis. We provide simple necessities such as a socks, diaper, toothbrushes, soap, shampoo, conditioner, razors, deodorant, condoms, feminine products, and alignments to help soothe health ailments and promote health. Our philosophy is one that is a relationship-based harm-reduction model, which is different from our Westernized health care practices. In order for people to escape or end their life on the streets, they need to believe in themselves, and have a place they belong regardless of circumstances. We strive everyday to do this. The Health Commons is also a place for Augsburg University nursing students to work with people in need and gain understanding into this hidden culture. We also have many volunteers from the community that can give their time to helping work towards ending others struggles. Our supplies is obtained through strictly donations- so we are always in need of help.
