Description

I'm an experienced high school teacher in the York Region District School Board with a diverse background. I came to teaching after 10 years as a curator in Ontario museums and worked for several years as an academic researcher and editor. Over the last five years I have taught ESL, English (Academic and Applied), History (Academic and Applied), Civics, Philosophy, Careers and Business, Geography and literacy preparation for the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT). I provide services that support learning in any of the curriculum areas listed above and will work with students to acquire: Organizational skills to better prepare for assignments and tests. Literacy and test-writing skills necessary to succeed on the OSSLT. Exceptional writing ability by building foundational skills in grammar, spelling, organization and style. Referencing skills for forms of documentation (using footnotes or endnotes, citations, reference lists, bibliographies, credits) in appropriate academic formats such as MLA or APA. Competence using new technologies to support learning - in particular the use of Google Apps (recently introduced in the YRDSB) to organize and support student learning.
