The Angry Vet Not every veteran will be squeezing into an old uniform today to march in parades, relive old glories, or wave flags. The Vietnam War ended 50 years ago. For many of the men and women who served in that conflict and others, there are no old glories to remember. No happy homecomings. No gratitude. There is only anger. Brokenness. Betrayal. American Veterans for Equal Rights acknowledges the hurt of those who have been wounded by military service. Those who have been disrespected. Kicked out. Assaulted. Raped. Abused. The homeless, the lost, the bitter veterans who were promised much and provided nothing. You, too, are veterans. You are not looking for gratitude today for your service. You are looking for understanding. AVER wants you to know that there is a place for you in our organization along with the flag wavers and the activists. Some of us have walked the same dark valley. You do not have to walk that path alone. We will walk it with you. Together, we will find a way out. That is where healing begins. That is what AVER aspires to be, healing, and wholeness. Thank you for all those who served. And for the betrayed, angry vet, we understand. Welcome home. Danny Ingram, National President Emeritus American Veterans for Equal Rights
