The B.A. Rudolph Foundation provides support for young women, who, like B.A., seek to make a difference in the world through public service. www.barudolphfoundation.org
Before her passing in September 2011, and as a lasting tribute to her parents and the values they imparted to her, B.A. Rudolph instructed her five goddaughters to create and direct a charitable foundation aimed to support young women who themselves seek to make a difference in the world. The B.A. Rudolph Foundation’s mission is to advance and benefit young women through educational and general support for whom a small amount of support could make a significant difference. The B.A. Rudolph Foundation gained 501(c)3 status in December 2011. The first initiative of the Foundation was to offer scholarships to undergraduate women seeking unpaid, public service internships in the Washington D.C. Metropolitan Area, in order to offset the cost of living in Washington. Additionally, women were offered a mentor in their field, and points of contact for additional networking opportunities. From 2012-2014, the DC Summer Intern Scholarship supported eleven summer interns. Beginning in 2015, the scope of our support will broaden. The DC Summer Intern Scholarship will be renamed the Undergraduate Public Service Scholarship, to allow for the creation of the Graduate Public Service Scholarship. Both will be offered exclusively to women interning in the Washington area, but will allow students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels to benefit from the support. The Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Scholarship will also be added to the 2015 schedule, and will support undergraduate women seeking internships in the sciences. Unlike the Public Service Scholarship, internships anywhere in the United States will be eligible. The B.A. Rudolph Foundation is a 501(c)3 organization.
