Maria Cecilia Guzman, though her friends call her Mache, grew up in Cali, Colombia on a “beautiful hacienda”. Her childhood was spent in the company of horses, breathtaking landscapes, lakes and her wonderful mother. After she got married, she moved to Bogota and started working as a consultant. When the work ended, and with the encouragement of her business partners, she decided to follow her dream. At the age of 37, using one of her many designs, she made her first bag out of crocodile and snakeskin. The bag is still one of her favorites. Drawing from her own personal “hippie chick style”, she is continually challenged to make bags using the unforgiving crocodile material. Her goal when designing a bag is to make the crocodile material friendly and warm and to “make it dance”. She uses crocodiles from farms; the caiman cocodrilo fuscus. She’s inspired by nature, her dreams, and every day observations.
