It is almost that time of year. Please make sure to have your fireplaces cleaned and make sure the flue cap is in place. Build-up in a fireplace flue can catch fire and spread to other portions of your home. It is important to have them cleaned regularly.

BFD DEFENSIBLE SPACE INFORMATION Resources from the Bakersfield Fire Department have responded to numerous grass and brush fires in our urban core areas. Most of these fires have been determined intentional or accidental in nature. However, the onset of vegetation related incidents should act as a reminder that the brush season will likely be active. City residents should consider taking maintenance related actions on their properties now, reducing fire fuels, vegetation, rubbish, debris piles, and other hazards ahead of the warmer, drier months when these fires are more difficult to control. For more info, please see the e-copy of the BFD Defensible Space door-hanger below. A hard-copy may be picked up at any neighborhood BFD Fire Station or BFD Community Services Office, 2101 H Street, 661-326-3688.
