In January of 2013, my husband and I adopted our first puppies together! I knew right away that I wanted to feed them only grain-free food. So around Christmas of 2012, my husband and I selected our puppies' food. Everyone knew we were planning on adopting puppies (I hadn't stopped talking about it for months...), so we were showered with puppy-related presents at Christmas. They consisted mostly of toys and treats. Some people got us generic, artificially-flavored treats. Closer relatives splurged and got us "barkery"-level treats made with real chicken and cheese. But no matter if the treats were generic or gourmet, they still had grains in them. Pretty soon after we adopted our pups, I decided to start a grain-free dog treat business and Barks 'n' Bites was born! I never intended my treats to have so few ingredients (or be sooo delicious), but that was one of the perks of making grain-free treats: they could be simpler while still being more wholesome.
