Description

The Barrie Community Life Centre (herein referred to as the BCLC) is a structured training, education and mentoring charitable facility which enhances the quality of life of our community. We provide basic life skills that our clients can apply in their daily lives which will assist them with obtaining employment, moving off of social assistance, obtaining housing and living an independent and healthy lifestyle. We will always strive to work with our partner support agencies to ensure that the level of care and assistance we offer to the community is provided in a professional and consistent manner that our clients will come to expect and appreciate. The BCLC will work within a fiscally responsible model in which we offer a full range of support services while remaining protective of the public trust and financial support we receive. Our training curriculum will never become stagnant. We will provide a core educational experience for all clients but our centre will always remain fluid and responsive to the changings needs of our community. We will reflect the demographics, trends and ever-changing and evolving necessities we observe and have been provided to us by the community. We will seek input, criticism and praise from our clients, our partners, and the community at large to allow us the opportunity to become better at what we do. We will set high goals for ourselves and we will maintain the same high level of expectation for our clients. As professionals who have a great deal of experience across all spectrums of the community, we will allow our clients the opportunity to fail but we will ensure they know that the BCLC will continue to support them and that the BCLC will support them every step on the way to success. Centre Goals and Objectives: The BCLC will provide an inclusive learning environment which will be accommodating to the specific needs and abilities of each and every client we serve. The core focus of the BCLC will remain on building our clients sense of self-worth, self-esteem and pride in self by offering educational programs which support independence and an integration into main-stream society. The BCLC will provide all clients with a core curriculum which supports day-to-day life skills and will assist our clients with career placement and management of their personal lives to reduce their reliance on other support services. We will continually seek input from our clients, our partners and the community as a whole to make certain that our curriculum and services remain relevant to society and our mission statement. Upon completion of our core curriculum each client will receive a certificate of achievement which will serve as a celebration of their success and will allow the BCLC the opportunity to spread our measure of successes throughout the community. BCLC Philosophy The BCLC will remain an open and supportive learning environment which will cater to the abilities of each client. We will teach at the speed and level required, and we will ensure that each client is aware that our only goal is their success. We will measure success not only in the number of clients who pass through our door, but in the sense of pride and self-esteem that we can instill in our clients. The BCLC will reach out to other service providers to seek their input into our services. We will ensure that we become a vital link in the social safety net for our community, yet we will not duplicate services already offered by our partner agencies. The BCLC is not in place to serve people in crisis as the City of Barrie has a wealth of services for persons in or near a crisis state. The BCLC is in place to support people who are ready to receive help. The BCLC will offer assistance to persons who lack basic literacy skills, persons who are struggling with addictions, persons who have been incarcerated, the working poor, persons who lack computing skills, the unemployed and underemployed, persons who suffer from a mental health condition and require a more private or personalized learning environment. Above all else, the BCLC will assist any person who enters the centre. Neither The City of Barrie nor The County of Simcoe has a dedicated learning centre which operates with a focus of empowerment for people who may be marginalized from services available to the majority of the community. Our client base will include a segment of the population who lack education, life skills and the ability to provide for themselves or their family without significant assistance from the government or the private sector. The City of Barrie has become a hub or central gathering place for our target clientele as there are no similar services within Simcoe County and northward. Located within The City of Barrie are numerous support agencies, each of which serves as a vital element for the at-risk and marginalized community. These agencies remain open to all and find themselves serving a client base not just from Simcoe County but from other municipalities who do not offer such support. Despite the work done by these agencies, there is a lack of education, training and skill enhancement. This will become the focus of the BCLC. To provide an environment to teach, mentor, support and nurture members of the community who wish to enhance their life skills enabling them to attain a higher quality of life. It is our mission to introduce and enhance skills, confidence, self-esteem and pride in our clients and accept people where they are at in life and where they want to be.
