Some "pearls of wisdom" from long-standing Beit Rayim Member (and Board Member) Jason Presement regarding the joys and benefits to an organization and to yourself when you volunteer 3 Reasons I Enjoy Volunteering" 1. It Feels Good: Getting involved in something other than “work” where there’s a different type of appreciation for you, your opinions, your skills and your perspective is a true "feel good" experience 2. New and Interesting Experiences: Getting involved in situations you may not otherwise be aware of and learning to apply your newly acquired skills in real-life environments is mind-opening and fulfilling 3. Meet New People: You will meet people and make connections outside of your traditional network that, oddly enough, manage to have a positive professional impact at some point. If you’re gong to be a Volunteer, here are a few important Rules that I believe you should follow; 1. Be committed – Volunteer your time where you think you can make a difference, then stick to your commitments and obligations. 2. Be prepared – Come to meetings and events prepared. Coming prepared shows that you are committed, that you care, and that you are able to properly participate. 3. Do it for the right reasons – Don’t resume build. Don’t join an organization just so you can put it on your resume. We can see through that as part of the interview process, and you may be taking an opportunity away from someone who truly wants to be there 4. Participate – Don’t just show up. Participate. Take an interest. Volunteering has been one of the most fulfilling experiences for me since I took an active interest and pursued specific opportunities. Try it. You may like it!
