In January of 2012, it became official! The Belle Isle Conservancy was formed through the merger of four nonprofits - the Friends of Belle Isle, the Belle Isle Botanical Society, the Belle Isle Women's Committee and the Friends of the Belle Isle Aquarium. Michigan Department of Natural Resources assumed responsibility of Belle Isle Park in February of 2014. Since then we have partnered to restore and enhance all aspects of this beautiful island! From re-opening the Belle Isle Aquarium to helping recruit volunteers for the Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory; weekend educational youth activities to a DPS field trip program for 3rd and 4th grade students; from fundraising for much-needed historic restoration and fundamental building renovations to raising awareness for all the park's general operational needs - the Belle Isle Conservancy is the ardent advocate for the park user. We are here to restore, preserve, protect, and enhance this jewel, so that it will remain a part of the Detroit community- now and forever.
