Current Activities of Bendigo Family and Financial Services Inc: We currently provide: . A Young Mother's Group which support parents and their children by providing them with the opportunity to withdraw from their house and meet new people, offering time to socialise in a caring, safe, friendly and non judgmental environment, while joining in group activities (learning valuable team building skills) and to share their life experiences one on one or with the group. Guest speakers covering a range of topics throughout the year (i.e. housing support, domestic violence, family law, metal health, health centre nurse, breastfeeding nurse, disability support); Young parents will learn financial literacy skills through the money minded program while receiving one on one case management with a community case worker and / or financial counselor and gain an understanding of the different programs that are available for low income earners (i.e. No Interest Loans Scheme, The Step Up Program, The Adds Up Program, Utility Relief Grant); will gain a knowledge of nutritional meals / food and will improve their general education on health and safety of others by completing level one first aid · Financial Counseling: this is a service for people who would like more information about what to do if they can’t pay bills, fines or debts, including working out payment arrangements with creditors, provide information on government assistance's, help with Centrelink issues, assist with loan and credit issue and provide information about bankruptcy. · Financial Case Management: where there is a greater level of assistance required to move forward, case management is offered to clients. This is an interactive process including: budgeting, advocacy and personal development and is goal orientated. · Group work programs: Social Stitches: a community craft program aimed at eliminating social isolation as a result of low income. The group offers a day of craft activities and interaction with a wholesome 2 course lunch included and has been running for 2 years. · Emergency Relief Foodbank: Active Clients can access food assistance, vouchers and hampers when required. · Volunteering opportunity: We provide volunteering opportunities in the Administration and Community Development fields and currently have 6 regular community volunteers. · Host for the Work Experience program: Receives work experience participants from local Job Network Agencies; Best Employment and CVGT. Participants are able to utilise current skills that they have as well as further develop their skill set and knowledge. · No Interest Loan Scheme: an interest free loan of up to $800 for individuals and families on low incomes. Loans are for the purchase of essential household items and services. The No Interest Loan Scheme is a community based program that enables people to access fair, safe and equitable credit. There are no fees or charges and repayments are between $15 - $30 a fortnight with the loans finalised within 12-24 months. . StepUP: StepUP provides low interest loans for individuals or families holding a current Centrelink Concession Card or receiving Family Tax Benefit Part A. These personal, unsecured loans are between $800 and $3000 for individuals and families living on a low income and are offered at a basic interest rate of 3.99%p.a. The loans provide affordable credit for the purchase of essential personal, household and domestic goods and services (eg. refrigerators, washing machines, medical expenses, cars and car repairs, computers). Recipients are 'mentored' by a microfinance worker throughout the loan process and repayment period. StepUP is an initiative of Good Shepherd Youth & Family Service in partnership with NAB. · Credit Break free program: financial education program aiming to provide participants with information on: credit and credit management, consumer credit - rights & responsibilities, budgeting, debt consolidation, bank and banking products, nutrition, health, out and about on a budget, cooking and financial assistance services available in the area. The program runs for twelve weeks four times a year at various locations throughout Bendigo, with 20-25 participants.
