BTS is a joint endeavour of the Freie Universität Berlin, the Hertie School of Governance, and the Social Science Research Center Berlin. It offers a rigorous and intense English-language PhD programme for exceptionally-talented graduate students in the field of transnational and international relations, defined as an interdisciplinary field of reasearch encompassing Political Science, History, Economics, Law and adjacent disciplines.

How To Get to Berlin Graduate School for Transnational Studies

From the Train Station From Hauptbahnhof (Berlin Central Train Station) Take the train S9 (direction Spandau) from platform 16 on the upper level to Zoologischer Garten. From Zoologischer Garten take the subway line U9 (direction Rathaus Steglitz) to Spichernstraße and change to subway line U3 (direction Krumme Lanke) and get off at Thielplatz. From here it is just a two minutes walk to the BTS building (Ihnestraß 26); travel time is approximately 30 minutes. From the Airports From Tegel Airport Take bus 109 to the stop Jakob-Kaiser-Platz, change there to the subway line U7 (direction Rudow) and go eight stops to Fehrbelliner Platz. At Fehrbellinger Platz change to the subway line U3 (direction Krumme Lanke) and go six stops to Thielplatz; travel time is approximately 40 minutes. From Schönefeld Airport Take the train S9 (direction Spandau) to Treptower Park. At Treptower Park change to the circle line (Ringbahn) S41 and travel west to Heidelberger Platz. At Heidelberger Platz change to the subway line U3 (direction Krumme Lanke) and go five stops to Thielplatz; travel time is about one hour. International Graduate Research School in Berlin with a focus is on the interface between the humanities and behavioral sciences with the neurosciences The Berlin School of Mind and Brain is an international Graduate Research School. It offers a three-year doctoral degree program in English. The focus is on the interface between the humanities and behavioral sciences with the neurosciences. Main topics for research at the School are ‘conscious and unconscious perception’, ‘decision-making’, ‘language’, ‘brain plasticity and lifespan ontogeny’, and ‘mental disorders and brain dysfunction’. It is our mission to train outstanding young scientists to become experts in one of the relevant fields, to provide them with knowledge over the gamut of mind and brain research, and to give them the ability, and the opportunity, to cooperate with researchers from other disciplines. What do ‘mind’ or ‘brain’ in training and research stand for? Mind stands for humanities and behavioral sciences such as philosophy, linguistics, behavioral and cognitive psychology, neuroeconomics; brain stands for neurosciences such as: neurophysiology, medicine (esp. neurology and psychiatry), computational neuroscience, neurobiology. The School closely collaborates with seven neuroscience schools in Berlin (www.neuroscience-berlin.com), especially with the two Ph.D. programs Medical Neurosciences and Computational Neuroscience. It is a member of Neuroschools Germany and of the Network of European Neuroscience Schools (NENS).
