The Berlin School of Economics and Law is a leading German business school founded on 1 April 2009 through the merger of the Berlin School of Economics and the FHVR Berlin. The BSEL portfolio provides a wide range of professional qualifications. BSEL is an academic centre of excellence specialised in business and administration for the public and private sector, as well as public security, the law and engineering. The majority of programmes lead to a bachelor's or master's degree. Degrees have been quality controlled and are accredited by the German state. BSEL is AMBA accredited and member of the EFMD, AACSB as well as the UAS7 Alliance for Excellence, a strategic alliance of seven leading German universities committed to excellence in teaching and research. BSEL has an international approach with close working relationship with over 90 partner universities all over the world and has a very strict and selective admission policy.The BSEL Campus LocationsThe Berlin School of Economics and Law has three campuses. The main campus is located in Berlin-Schöneberg and is home to the University administration, the Faculty of Business and Economics and the IMB Institute of Management Berlin. The Faculty of Company-Linked Programmes is near Ostkreuz station in Berlin-Friedrichshain. The campus with the Faculty of Administration and Law, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Police Training and Management and the Institute for Distance Learning is part of the educational complex in Berlin-Lichtenberg. Since 2010, BSEL also has an experimental virtual campus in the 3D virtual world of Second Life, established and supervised by BSEL's Head of E-Learning, Marcus Birkenkrahe.

It offers a three-year doctoral degree program in English. The focus is on the interface between the humanities and behavioral sciences with the neurosciences. Main topics for research at the School are ‘conscious and unconscious perception’, ‘decision-making’, ‘language’, ‘brain plasticity and lifespan ontogeny’, and ‘mental disorders and brain dysfunction’. It is our mission to train outstanding young scientists to become experts in one of the relevant fields, to provide them with knowledge over the gamut of mind and brain research, and to give them the ability, and the opportunity, to cooperate with researchers from other disciplines. What do ‘mind’ or ‘brain’ in training and research stand for? Mind stands for humanities and behavioral sciences such as philosophy, linguistics, behavioral and cognitive psychology, neuroeconomics; brain stands for neurosciences such as: neurophysiology, medicine (esp. neurology and psychiatry), computational neuroscience, neurobiology. The School closely collaborates with seven neuroscience schools in Berlin (www.neuroscience-berlin.com), especially with the two Ph.D. programs Medical Neurosciences and Computational Neuroscience. It is a member of Neuroschools Germany and of the Network of European Neuroscience Schools (NENS).
