Description

Big Fluffy Dog Rescue is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to helping giant breed mixed breed dogs in need. We value dogs of all breeds, but we specialize in what the name says: big, fluffy dogs. We have volunteers across the United States, from the mid-Atlantic and New England areas, the Plains states, the deep South and Florida, the midwest and the Rocky Mountains. We work to help homeless big fluffy dogs find a home to call their own. Our dogs come in to rescue for many different reasons. Many were abandoned at high kill shelters. Some were turned in by owners who could not properly care for them, some came from hoarding cases and still others are failed livestock guardian dogs. Regardless of their origins, our goal for every dog we have is the same: a safe, happy home where each dog is a well-loved member of the family. Big Fluffy Dog Rescue has its headquarters in Nashville, Tennessee. Big Fluffy Dog Rescue is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. To rescue mixed breed giant breed dogs from euthanasia and to help find every dog in need a home of its own

General Info

Rules of this page: This is our private page. We make the rules. We are a live and let live kind of place, but if you come onto this page and tell us we suck, we will remove you from the page, but first we might make fun of you. If you don't like something, skip past the post. Our brand of humor is not for everyone, but we don't tell you your bunny butt cake post wasn't funny, so spare us your opinion when you aren't amused by us. If you are crossposting on this site about a dog in need, please check first to be sure the dog is actually in need. We do check on the dogs in these posts and many times, the dog is not in need anymore and this wastes a lot of time for us. Also, make sure you list the contact info for the shelter where the dog is, clearly identifying the location. Without information, we can't help. The dogs listed on our petfinder only represent a small fraction of the animals we have in rescue and available for adoption. To adopt a Big Fluffy Dog, please fill out an application at bigfluffydogs.com and one of our coordinators will contact you! Note for the masses: We have the "kneecap rule" here at BFDR. Kneecap rule = I reserve the right to smack your kneecaps with a tire iron if you return the dog to us after having been sternly told everything about the dog and then you complain about the matters we warned you about, thus stressing out the dog. Further note for the masses: BFDR uses the Wizard Scale of Dog Difficulty when rating the dogs we have. Here's the chart, stolen verbatim from Harry Potter: XXXXX: Known wizard killer / impossible to train or domesticate XXXX: Dangerous / requires specialist knowledge / skilled wizard may handle XXX: Competent wizards should cope XX: Harmless / may be domesticated X: Boring If you have never owned a dog, consider an X or XX rated dog. If you are interested in a herding breed or flock guardian breed dog, they are all rated XXX and need someone with a brain. And finally, why we are against invisible fences: Problem number1 is that theses fences do nothing to keep dogs in the perimeter safe from outside threats. Problem number 2 is that certain breeds, Pyrs and herding dogs chief among them, will not respect this boundary and their desire to roam is stronger than the electric current. They will take quite a shock to get through. Problem 3 is that they burn the crap out of dogs. See this picture for what an electric fence collar did to a Pyr: http://www.cgpr.org/why-shock-collar-arent-acceptable. Problem 4 is that they hurt. If you don't believe me, try wearing one and walk across the boundary. If you tell me it didn't hurt, turn it up to the level it would get a Pyr's attention and try again. They are not humane, safe or protective. Our adoption fees are $600 for a puppy under 6 months old, and $500 for all other dogs. Questions about the fees? Here is an excellent post explaining what we do and how much it costs. https://www.facebook.com/bigfluffydogrescue/photos/a.73633861181.73948.28214716181/10152876700751182/?type=1&theater Explanation of drunk, pregnant kittens: A post was put up in which we tested which words in post caused a post to read higher in the news feeds of our fans. The words were vacation, promotion, wedding and a few others. By the time our fans were done playing with it, we had drunk pregnant kittens in Vegas. And it stuck. Taking in dogs: BFDR is not a shelter. We are not an open admissions facility like an animal control facility is. We do not take in stray dogs because we don't have the legal right to do that - only chartered humane societies and government run shelters have that right in Tennessee. If you have a stray or abandoned animal, please contact your local law enforcement agency. If you have a dog you would like to surrender, please go here for more information: https://bigfluffydogs.com/contact/surrendering-a-dog/
