Description

Hi! Meet Keith and Sondra...... Information about us. We are a married couple that enjoy repurposing and restoring items that are sometimes discarded and thrown away. We feel finding a new use for what was an everyday item is good for our environment. Some items are restored to their original beauty and function and others we will make into an arrangement that is pleasing to the eye. We research and learn about the items we restore and share this information with others to promote awareness and preservation of our past. A little about each of us. Sondra is a loving wife, mother, home maker and friend. She is a wonderful and very delightful lady with a creative streak of how to reuse castaways. Even though Sondra has lost most of her vision due to Retinitis Pigmentosa, she has not lost her humor and insight on what is good in life. Before Sondra was diagnosed with RP, She successfully managed and operated a small printing business in NW Houston for over 9 years. Keith is by trade a vessel ship captain having worked for over 35 years in the offshore oil, ocean research/survey and salvage industries managing the daily activities and monthly finances of ships assigned to. He is now staying home to assist Sondra with shared endeavors and caring for our aging parents. Keith has restored vintage vacuum tube radios, jukeboxes, furniture, traffic signals, embossed signage plus many other items which are too numerous to mention. We consider ourselves a team with many of the same tastes and likes and thoroughly enjoy hunting for treasures we hope to share with others. This is a new chapter in our lives and our hopes are we can make a success of finding and sometimes restoring little bits of the past that can be passed onto to others. Our Business Plan... Our plan is to periodically buy out the remnants of some estate sales in the Houston, Texas area and resell to the public at very reasonable prices. On most any given weekend, there are approximately 7 to 21 different sales. We conducted an experiment early July and bought out an estate. We had a 4 day yard sale at our home and were able to sell most of the remnants more than tripling our initial investment. Fortunately, the owners that inherited the estate and the estate sale company allowed us a week to clear the home of all furnishings and items. During this time, we were able to sort before setting up in our yard. Our sale was very successful with many customers returning each day of this event. We had very reasonable prices which presented many quality items such as fine china sets, antique furniture, household appliances, utensils, tools, etc. which were intended to be affordable for some that would not otherwise be able to buy. Most of the items were vintage and of a collectable or functional nature. We had a lot of pleased customers and many of which asked if we are going to have another sale. In late July, we introduced ourselves to many of the Houston area estate sales companies with our intents on starting a business reselling remnants from estates. Many of these companies have expressed interest in our endeavor saying this gives them and their clients another avenue for clearing the contents of a home. Over the past month, we have been contacted by these companies or their clients and have purchased the remnants of three more estates. Since our yard sale, we have set up two weekends at Trader’s Village, a local flea market and have been able to liquidate most of our inventory each time. We have learned how to pack, sort and sell most items. We have found it takes one day to setup and about half a day to breakdown our sales booth which is very time and labor consuming every weekend. We are allowed two yard sales a year and it is impractical to use our yard as a sales venue on a continuous basis and we have been researching renting a store front / warehouse with approximately 2400 sf. We have found the rent on many of these facilities for a one month period is around $1.00 per square foot excluding utilities and insurance with a two to three year lease agreement. We know once we have the funds to pay rent and utilities for one year, this will become a very successful business venture. Once we acquire a store, we plan to sell the treasures we find at affordable prices. Some of the larger and interesting items that are vintage and damaged will be restored or repurposed to prevent going to the landfill. The location we wish to create a store front is near our home, fairly centralized for the Northwest Houston metropolitan area which is undergoing redevelopment and growing both commercially and residentially. Cheers! Keith and Sondra Hardy
