Our initiative was born through a recognition of the demand for more Steiner Education options in a central location in Brisbane.

Description

The Brisbane Waldorf School initiative was birthed from a desire to give more children access to participate in the nurturing and holistic education devised by the Austrian educationalist Rudolf Steiner. The Brisbane Waldorf School Initiative has joined together with Samford Valley Steiner School to work together to develop a second campus of Samford Valley Steiner School. There is a present and growing need for alternative options to mainstream education, and the insights of Steiner, together with the generations of teachers who have developed the Steiner curriculum for over 100 years offer this to our most precious resource, our children. Awareness and recognition is growing surrounding the importance of the emotional and social intelligence. More and more families are searching for a nurturing, holistic option to education, recognising the benefits and value of the Steiner approach. Steiner education is drawn from the work of Rudolph Steiner’s educational philosophies and methodologies incorporating the three fold approach to learning ‘head, heart and hand’s. The importance of a child growing up with a strong sense of self and understanding of their place in the world is invaluable; Steiner education is future orientated and incorporates this in its dedication to the overall wellbeing of the child. The second campus embraces the essence of community - this is integral to the philosophies of Steiner and is also demonstrated in the support the school provides the child - embodying the whole cooperative learning concept, acknowledging the whole child. The second campus is based on the establishment of a not-for-profit, independent school offering a non-sectarian, co-educational and non-denominational learning environment. Further, this school initiative is designed to increase accessibility to Steiner Education, reduce existing long waitlists and assist families with location barriers in Brisbane. The School is proposed to be within a 15km radius of Brisbane CBD. The School intends to provide an age appropriate education and developmental journey from the early years and Prep, growing year on year to Class 12. While we plan to start small and grow naturally, we hope to integrate a range of programs and community-based activities from the start. Joyful learning for life
