Bristol Regional was the first hospital in the region to offer a digital cardiac catheterization lab and a Primary Stroke Center. Bristol Regional is one of just a handful of hospitals in the nation to offer the innovative CyberKnife Stereotactic Radiosurgery System, located within the J.D. and Lorraine Nicewonder Cancer Center. The hospital is also home to Tennessee’s only Level II trauma center and the only 24/7 catheterization lab in the region – The Alpha Natural Resources Center for Interventional Cardiology. A member of the region’s Level One Heart Attack Network, Bristol Regional was the only hospital in Tennessee or Virginia to receive the Mission: Lifeline Gold Achievement award, the highest level of recognition awarded by the American Heart Association for prompt and effective heart attack treatment. Bristol Regional is also the region’s leader in off-pump – or “beating-heart” – cardiovascular surgery an innovative cardiac procedure that leads to shorter hospital stays and better outcomes. CareChex, a well-respected national quality rating service, selected Bristol Regional among the top 10 percent in the nation for cancer care, cardiac care, coronary bypass surgery and heart attack treatment.
