Description

Butts Park Arena is a multi-use sports stadium in Spon End, Coventry, England. Its main use is as a rugby stadium (both Union and League). It is the home ground for Coventry RFC (since its opening ) and Coventry Bears, (who moved there for the start of the 2004–05 season). It was formerly the home ground of the Coventry Jets, an American football team. The stadium will become the new home of Coventry United, a non league football Club founded in 2013, the football club's men's and the women's sides will play home matches at the ground from the 2017–18 season.The stadium has also hosted the local varsity day matches between Coventry University and the University of Warwick.As of spring 2017, the stadium is under consideration as the temporary home for Coventry City for at least the 2018-19 season (after their lease with the Ricoh Arena terminates in May 2018), but this will require substantial additional seating to accommodate the average crowds of approximately 9,000 regular fans.The stadiumThe stadium was built in 2004 and currently has one stand, the East Stand, which has a capacity of 3,000 and includes a number of conference and banqueting facilities. The West Stand which was a temporary structure holding 1,000 was removed at the end of the 2005–06 season on grounds of health and safety.
