Description

This is the OFFICIAL Facebook page of COPE Service Dogs. We are a registered charity that raise and train dogs to become partners for people with disabilities. Through our unique youth program, COPE engages students at high school. Each student is matched with a COPE puppy and taught how to train it more than 90 tasks, like: to open doors, turn on lights, retrieve out-of-reach objects. As part of the training, the youth take their COPE dogs to elementary schools to help struggling students with reading and math, and they make therapy visits, too. Volunteer Puppy Raiser families foster the dogs in their homes during their 2-year training period. At the end of the 2 years, a COPE dog is matched with a Life Partner to begin a career as a Service Dog. To provide a remarkable education program that engages communities and empowers students and others in the training of service dogs that will transform the lives of people with disabilities.

General Info

• A COPE service dog is in service throughout every stage of its growth, development and maturity. • COPE works with the school boards to use engage high school students in training and teaching our puppies and dogs. The students experience increased confidence, emotional self-control and empathy AND are motivated to be successful in school. • Our dogs help elementary school children learn math and reading as they psychologically mature and practice their skills in public. • Our volunteer youth gain leadership skills and a sense of achievement that they have contributed to their community. • Stable and committed volunteer “Puppy Raiser” homes are required for the dogs whenever they are not working with their youth trainers during the 2 year preparation period. • It takes COPE approx $25,000 to raise, train and deliver dogs to their career life partners. • Major COPE sponsors can name a dog! • COPE is a registered charity and all donations are tax-deductible. DONATE AT www.copedogs.org • After 2 years of training, C.O.P.E. dogs become reliable, assistive companions to people with disabilities. • COPE dogs often provide the motivation for a new outlook on life for their partners. I just wanted to give a big shout out to some of the many people who made COPE Service Dogs Gala such a big hit. Kim Urquhart Riley, Sharon Winchester, Harley Cooper, and Paul Millington, thank you for being the best Gala Committee ever. It was a pleasure to work with every single one of you, and boy did you bring so much to the table! Vicki Kottka, my soul mate, I love creating with you! The sky is the limit with Vicki and yes she does make Fairy Tales come true. We also had the pleasure of having the best MC's last night. Tara Dawn Winstone and Jamie Hall can't be beat! Your passion for what you do makes everyone's night feel just right. Carey WT and his band Memphis Mudd rocked the gala to the last note, as usual. COPE Service Dogs would also like to thank everyone who came up to help unleash potential in our community. Sharon Bates, Mark Wretham and Shari Pryce.

Only one week left to submit your recipes! Come on COPE Supporters show us what you have! We here at COPE have decided to shake it up a bit this year! We are taking a break from our usual calendar and thought it would be a great idea to create a COPE Community Comfort Food Cookbook. This book will be broken down into six sections: Appetizers, Soups and Salads, Sides, Mains, Desserts and a Celebrity Section (We would also love to feature a recipe from Chefs in our COPE Communities. It does not have to be a recipe from their menu but could be their personal comfort food recipe.) Here is the fun part! We would like you to aptly name your recipe with a dog’s name or something to do with a canine. Examples: Malibu’s Muffins Park and Bark Cookies Pepper’s Pickles I will leave the rest to your imagination! Each recipe can also be dedicated to someone or a pet. Examples: Spot’s Chocolate Squares Dedicated to: Grandma Wilson Walk in the Park Chicken and Squash Casserole Dedicated to: Our Boy Rover There are a few guidelines that we need to follow: • Recipes should be easy enough for novice cooks to follow • Recipes should be ones that you have made many times and know will turn out. (Sadly our test kitchen is not up and running at this time! LOL) • Please double check all recipe measurements before sending • Feel free to submit as many as you would like as we need 16 recipes per section • If for some reason, we end up with more recipes than needed, our panel of COPE Comfort Food Judges will make the final choice • As much as we would like to include recipes for canines, we will have to pass, due to the nature of some of our canine’s sensitive digestive systems • Business card size ads are available for you to advertise your business - please email Kim • Please send your recipe to kimjeffery@copedogs.org
