E pluribus theatrum. http://calshakes.org/ "One of the most beautiful outdoor performing spaces in America." —The Wall Street Journal We are California Shakespeare Theater, and this is what we do between May and October: We take the classics and turn them, if not completely inside-out, then always at least a little bit upside-down. We take them outside, for one thing, to our breathtaking venue in the East Bay hills. Once you're there, you can check out the sculpture garden, listen to a free talk in the Grove Talk Grove, buy sandwiches and beer and wine and coffee and hot cocoa and sweets at the cafe, have a picnic, and bring whatever you like (including your tasty vittles from home) inside the amphitheater to enjoy during the productions. We have parties and talk-backs and all kinds of events designed to make this a very un-classical classical theater experience. We also have camps, classes, student matinees, in-school residencies and professional development for teachers; and last (but not least) is our Triangle Lab program, where we bring disparate communities together around the creation of new American plays inspired by the classics. E Pluribus Theatrum!

We equip girls with the skills to exercise the power of their voice. At GL, we offer camps and workshops designed to teach girls, educators and parents the core practices of emotional intelligence, healthy relationships, and assertive self-expression. Taught by professional, salaried instructors, all GL programs use interactive lessons and theatre-based techniques to help girls connect with their emotions and practice the tools of building healthy, authentic relationships. The courses are age-appropriate and progressive, following girls’ developmental needs from grade school through high school.
