Whether you want to help run a sports club with disadvantaged children, be a Big Sibling to a child or teenager who would benefit from your help, entertain the elderly in nursing homes, teach english as a second language, help kids with homework or many other things...WE ARE YOUR PEOPLE!
Not sure if volunteering is for you? As well as our regular volunteering projects we also have several one-off opportunities to give you a taster of what’s on offer!
Last year these included: punting kids around for our summer fun-day, dressing up as Santa at Christmas, busking for SCA, making musical instruments out of recycled materials for CAMEO, gardening, refereeing sports competitions, running experiments at the science festival, theatre workshops, the list goes on!
What’s in it for me?
As well as a chance to make a difference in the community, and to participate in some fantastic events, SCA volunteers also get the opportunity to attend a number of training events.
This year we hope to run courses in child protection, first aid, teaching English, and disability awareness. If you’re an SCA volunteer and have any other suggestions for useful training get in touch and we’ll try our best to organise some!
On the social side of things SCA is a great way to meet new and like-minded people! We meet regularly for socials, and of course the volunteering is also a great way to get to know each other!
Not sure you've got the time?
Most of our regular volunteers give about two hours a week, but if you're worried that's too much not all of our projects demand a regular commitment. Let us know if the time commitment is a concern and we can recommend a more flexible project. Additionally we have lots of one-off opportunities throughout the year, which are advertised on our weekly e-bulletin (you can sign up to this from our website, or email us and we'll add you on to it!)
How to get involved:
You'll need to fill out our registration form, which is available on the website. And if you want to do anything that involves working with children or vulnerable adults then you'll need to do a CRB check, so pop into the office with some ID!
