Burman-Buddhist Supremacy and the Extermination of Muslims of Burma. By Nur Hashim Rohingya Human Rights Activist-Canada. The all human races of the World should know about what is happening in Burma. Research on Burma shows, from the time of the Burmese kings through its present military rulers, Burma has continued a tradition of ruthlessness to its people especially toward its ethnic minorities. As Burma became independent, it was expected to be changed. It was meant to be a democratic and a multi ethnic country. But the military general Ne Win's coup in 1962 and the subsequent developments turned it into a country in trouble. It failed to develop democratic institutions and human rights consciousness of the majority toward the ethnic minorities. Instead it had developed military institutions geared to commit genocide. Instead of finding friends in a democratic country, the military's ideology was to find enemies within. In its Burmanization policy, a Burmese was recognized as one who is Burman by race and or a Buddhist by religion. It found its enemies among the ethnic groups. Rohingyas and the Kachines do not fit into this category. Thus the worst sufferers happened to be the Rohingya Muslims and the Kachine Christian people. From 1962 onward we have seen general Ne Win's coup effectively destroyed the short lived democratic government and established the Revolutionary Council under the Burmese Way to Socialism. In February 1963, the Enterprise Nationalization Law was passed, effectively nationalizing all major industries and prohibiting the formation of new factories. This law adversely affected many industrialist and entrepreneurs, especially those without the full citizenship and so on. In continuation of the military's racist policy the1982 citizenship law was enacted, the Rohingyas of Burma are vulnerable as they have no legal status in their homeland and are considered non-citizens. The plight of the Rohingyas demonstrate how people without citizenship rights in their own country can be forced out and become refugees, leaving them still vulnerable and without citizenship in their country of origin. The “so-called” Burma Citizenship Law of 1982, which violates several fundamental principles of customary International Law standards, has reduced the Rohingyas to the status of Stateless people. Although the 1982 Citizenship law is also discriminatory towards the vast majority of the Indian and Chinese populations of Burma, as the promulgation of this law took place soon after the exodus of Rohingya refugees into Bangladesh in 1978. This law was especially designed effectively to deny Rohingyas the right to a nationality. The 1982 Citizenship law has had the effect of rendering the vast majority of Rohingyas ineligible to be Burma citizens. 1992 three hundreds thousands Rohingya refugees fled to neighbouring country Bangladesh to escape the all forms of atrocities by the Burmese security forces. The present quasi military government pursues the similar policy of the military against the Rohingya Muslims. It continues its Burman Race with Buddhist religious Supremacy to rule the country. In Jun 2012 the government-supervised violence against unarmed Rohingya Muslims minority in Rakhine state of Burma by the Rakhine Buddhist nationalists, in which more than a thousand people have been killed and hundreds of religious building and thousands and thousands of houses were burned to the ground and more than 1,40000 people displaced. On the other sides, more than 500 hundreds people believed to have died in sinking their boats in the sea way to Thailand and Malaysia while they were fleeing Myanmar to save their lives from the violence according to UNHCR reports. The Rohingya refugees have been kept in IDP Camps in Rakhine state are in dire condition, they don’t have access to medical attention, foods, purified water, sanitation and living condition according to UN envoy Tomas Ojea Quintana. International Relief efforts are not being allowed in restrictive areas. As matter of a planned genocide, Rohingyas are now allowed to starve to death. Rakhine State and Meiktila are severely affected. In Rakhine State numerous women were gang-raped and tortured inhumanly. According to Human rights Watch and International News media, RNDP led by Dr. Aye Maung and “969” campaigner Monk Wira Thu went on barbaric rampage and anti-Muslims violence. They gang-raped woman publicly, slaughtered any one in their way. This sorts of barbaric misdeeds; these Buddhist extremists have committed them all, they have even poisoned the ponds so that Muslims cannot even drink the water. Human Rights Watch unambiguously identifies the Burmese government as complicit in the abuses against Rohingya, calling it a government-backed “campaign of ethnic cleansing. “Even national icon Aung Sang Suu Kyi has denounced the two-child policy as of May 27th, stating that “They should not discriminate. This is against human rights”. The way the situation is evolving, especially the military inspired Wirathu's increasing power, I am worried that there might be more trouble in the future. Thus the International Community without further delay should take steps to send UN peacekeeping forces to Burma to prevent it from becoming a RWANDA type of the escalation of further violence against ethnic minorities and the Muslims population of Burma. I thank you for reading about the plight of the Rohingya Muslims.
