Quality professional dental care for the whole family. • OUR PRACTICE Established in Canning Vale for 20 years and relocated to its current modern purpose built premises in 1999. Our growth has been achieved by word of mouth and referrals. • OUR SERVICES General Dentisty Preventive Care Teeth Whitening Crown & Bridge Cerec Porcelain Veneers Implants Rooth Canal Therapy Wisdom Teeth Sedation & General Anaesthetic Veterans' Affairs Medicare Teen Vouchers • GENERAL DENTISTRY Canning Vale Dental Centre offers our patients a comprehensive review of the mouth and oral structures at each check up appointment. An individual plan will then be discussed and presented in accordance with what our diagnostic skills determine and what you request. We are experienced in all facets of dental care from the simplest filling to the more complex implant dentistry. • PREVENTIVE CARE Prevention is better than cure. Canning Vale Dental Centre employs a dental hygienist who has expertise in the cleaning of our patient’s teeth and oral hygiene issues. These sought after appointments are longer than usual to ensure thoroughness in cleaning and tooth polishing. They are usually integrated with a dentist check up appointment to assess other requirements. • TEETH WHITENING A common request from many of our patients. After utilising several methods of teeth whitening our centre predominately uses a very cost effective and reliablemethod to whiten teeth as much as possible. Simple impressions are taken from which individual plaster models are made. On these models precision small flexible mouth trays are made. These trays are then used to hold whitening solution in close contact to your teeth. Simply wearing these trays for two half hour periods a day for 12 days gives the best result. • CROWN & BRIDGE The professional staff at CVDC are very experienced in all facets of crown and bridge therapy. Those who have had extensive filling care in the past know as we age the walls of teeth become more fragile and are prone to break. A dental crown is a cover for the whole tooth which assists in holding the tooth together. They can be made in porcelain (tooth coloured and shaded) as well as gold. Crowns are often used to improve ones smile. A missing tooth can also be placed and "fixed" into position by using a dental bridge-this is usually crowns on teeth adjacent to the gap supporting one in the middle. There are variations to this including just 'bonding' a tooth to ones on either side also. • CEREC What is Cerec? Cerec is a high tech system that allows a dentist to design, fabricate and fit a porcelain ceramic crown or filling in one visit. After the dentist has prepared the tooth a 3D camera captures an image and a computer makes a model of the tooth (therefore no need forimpressions). The dentist then uses the advanced high tech Computer Aided design (CAD) features of Cerec to design exactly how the new filling or crown will look. Once designed an extremely accurate milling unit fabricates the restoration from a porcelain block. The restoration is then polished and bonded onto the tooth. Why Cerec? There are three main advantages to the use of Cerec: 1. Provides an aesthetic tooth coloured restoration 2. Can all be achieved in one visit 3. Uses porcelain ceramic which has similar wear characteristic to enamel unlike resin or plastic fillings. Porcelain is also an extremely inert material biologically. • PORCELAIN VENEERS Most people feel their smile can be improved. There are many ways that this could be achieved and often our practice utilizes the latest in adhesion techniques to bond to teeth ceramic / porcelain veneers. These are fine shells of porcelain which are made to individually and precisely fit onto the outside tooth surface. These can improve colour and shapes of teeth. Some preparation is usually required to the teeth but this is kept as minimal as possible. • IMPLANTS Implants are a way of restoring 'gappy' smiles and spaces between teeth. Traditionally, dentures and bridges were used as treatment options but nowadays Dental Implants have become the 'gold standard' treatment option for patients that have spaces in their bite or missing teeth around the back of their mouth. Implants are generally done in three stages. The first stage is when the area that is missing a tooth is assessed to decide if Implants are an appropriate option. We will discuss this with you to ensure that your questions and concerns have been addresseIf Implant Therapy is the chosen course of action, we will send you for a consultation with an oral surgeon who will place the implant in the required area. If required, a temporary denture can be made to cover up the implant healing site and allow you to continue with your life without interruption. Once the implant site has healed (this usually takes about 3 months), we can then take a mould of the area and fabricate a tooth which will be anchored by the implant. The result is excellent and the lab fabricated tooth looks and feels like one of your own teeth. • ROOT CANAL THERAPY Teeth that are painful, extensively damaged due to decay, fractures or trauma may need Root Canal Treatment in order to alleviate the pain and preserve the tooth. Before commencing Root Canal Treatment, we will assess the tooth to decide if it is appropriate to carry out this treatment and discuss the options with you. If Root Canal Treatment is undertaken, the tooth will first be cleaned and restored with a temporary restoration so that you may continue to use this tooth while it is being treated. Some medication will also be placed in this tooth to alleviate pain. In the next appointment, the tooth length will be measured and the internal aspect of the tooth is disinfected. A new dressing will be placed to ensure that the tooth remains asymptomatic. In the final stage, the tooth will be completely filled from within and a final filling will be placed over the tooth. In some cases, the tooth is quite fragile and a Dental Crown will be recommended to prevent further damage to the tooth. • WISDOM TEETH When wisdom teeth (also called third molars) align properly and gum tissue is healthy they pose little risk. Unfortunately this does not generally happen. They often grow sideways, partially emerge or even remain trapped beneath the gum and bone. These poorly positioned or impacted wisdom teeth can cause many problems. These can include • Gum infection surrounding the wisdom tooth • Food impaction • Cheek ulceration • Pressure pain on adjacent teeth • Crowding - the pressure from wisdom teeth may also force the other teeth closer together • Cystic formation • Bite problems from interferences Wisdom teeth are extracted usually in late teens or early 20s, but can be removed at any age. This is a very common procedure and should be done as soon as possible to avoid further complications. • SEDATION & GENERAL ANAESTHETIC What is Sedation? Sedation is a process used to establish a relaxed, easy and calm state through the use of sedative drugs. Sedation dentistry is used to provide a relaxing and anxiety-free experience for people receiving dental treatment. It enables individuals usually too afraid to go to the dentist to receive the dental care they need while avoiding the common apprehension known as dental phobia. This phobia prevents people from receiving necessary routine dental care, potentially compromising the health and functionality of their mouth and smile. In our practice sedation is administered by an anaesthetist intravenously (IV). The medications create such a comfortable experience that most patients do not remember the visit; it is as if they slept through the treatment. One of the major benefits of sedation dentistry is that people often feel like their dental procedure lasts only a few minutes, when in fact it might have taken hours to perform. Therefore, complex dental procedures, multiple extractions or extensive rebuilding procedures that normally require multiple visits can often be performed in fewer appointments. Dental sedation is sometimes also called Sleep Dentistry, Conscious Sedation or Twilight Sedation. General Anaesthesia (GA) For some patients and procedures the best option is for a general anaesthetic, where the patient is treated in a hospital while asleep. This may be the best choice for patients with extreme anxiety or for more difficult surgical procedures.
