Martin Beck's tenth episode is on view next week, July 7th through September 24! "Fifty Photographs" constitutes the final episode of Martin Beck's "Program" at the Carpenter Center. Beck’s "Fifty Photographs" consists of the gathering and reassembly of a selection of photographs originally presented in a 1966 exhibition titled "Fifty Photographs at Harvard University, 1844–1966" now held at Harvard Art Museums. Over the course of his two-year residency #MartinBeck has focused on various points of public interface that define the Carpenter Center as an institution. These points include physical spaces, curriculum, student relations, media relations, and time-based instances of connecting with the public, such as talks and screenings. To date, all of these components have been considered in distinct episodes. This final episode focuses on the role of the exhibition form and the collection as a teaching resource as well as a mode of general public address. The Carpenter Center is free and open to the public Thursday–Saturday, 12–6pm. More info > http://ow.ly/KRCN301OrZk #ccvaharvard

Now on view! "Make an Alloy, Make an Inventory" by Ryland Wharton imagines the #CRCbookshop as a continuously rewritten page. Four discreet display areas in the bookshop house an evolving selection of images, objects, and books that find their origin in the inaugural 1968 issue of #StewartBrand's "Whole Earth Catalog." Over the course of the exhibition, over thirty permutations of items will occupy the space. Free and open to the public Thursday–Saturday, 12–6pm. More info > http://ccva.fas.harvard.edu/ryland-wharton-make-alloy-make-inventory The #WholeEarthCatalogue was an American journal and product sales catalog published primarily between 1968 and 1972 with the intent to create an extensive and systemic network of references and pointers to intellectual and scientific “tools” that would, in turn, provide readers access to becoming totally self-reliant individual. Today, the "Whole Earth Catalog" remains a cross-section of the essential knowledge and cultural production accessible around 1968, the moment when a counterculture ethos began to gain traction. #consumerresearchcenter #ccvaharvard
