PREGNANCY SUPPORT: Are you or someone close to you facing an unexpected pregnancy? Afraid, confused, no where to turn? Catholic Charities is only a phone call away. Our staff can help you and family members sort out feelings and reach decisions that are right for you and your baby. Services for pregnancy support and related issues are provided at no cost to birth parents. Whatever parenting plan you choose for your expected child, Catholic Charities offers a comprehensive program of pregnancy support services. Happiness, sadness and fear of what the future may hold are just a few of the feelings birth parents may be having. Help is given to develop Healthy Beginnings for the child by encouraging good decision making while pregnant. Assistance is provided in developing skills needed to begin parenting or in choosing to make an adoption plan. If adoption is the best plan chosen, we offer complete professional Adoption Services. If choosing to parent your child, we will provide support to help prepare for your new role as a parent. We will also connect you with services in the community that will help you parent your child. ADOPTIVE & FOSTER FAMILY HOMES: For families interested in adopting or having already adopted, we provide a variety of information about the adoption process and its various requirements. Catholic Charities has helped many families and is skilled in helping you take the proper steps in preparing paperwork or readying your home in anticipation of adopting a child. Given the unique circumstances surrounding each adoption, planning sessions are handled on an individual family basis. Group programs and events are also held to discuss common issues in adoptive families. Catholic Charities offers family assessment (home study) services as well as training focused on the specific issues of adoptive parenting. Once prospective adoptive parents apply to adopt a child, applicants are required by law to undergo a "home study." This process involves gathering of information about the prospective parents, as well as education and preparation for welcoming a child into the home. The home study is designed to answer questions and establish a level of confidence that the adoption will have a favorable outcome for all involved. POST ADOPTION SUPPORT: For families that have adopted children, Catholic Charities provides ongoing support for parents, children and siblings as their families grow and develop. As life goes on, the needs of adoptive children and parents can raise questions that can be explored through interaction with other adoptive families that have been through similar experiences. Issues related to bonding, attachment, trust, self-esteem, and confidence can be resolved through mentoring, counseling, or family forums.
