Center for Mindful Learning

at , Lowell , 05847 United States

The Center for Mindful Learning is a non-profit dedicated to bringing deep mindfulness practice to the modern world. After several years of teaching mindfulness to thousands of children, Teal Scott, the founder of CML, realized that his mindfulness teaching would have a greater impact on the educational system and the community if he formed an organization which had the capacity to reach a larger population. In April 2010, Scott partnered with leading educators in the field of mindfulness to create CML. For the first ten months of operation, Linking Learning to Life, a Burlington non-profit, offered its support as a Fiscal Sponsor to help CML get off the ground. In September 2011, CML obtained 501(c)3 status and is now functioning as a non-profit, independent of Linking Learning to Life. With strong support from 1440 Foundation, The Johnson Family Foundation, The Silicon Valley Foundation, The Vermont Community Foundation and organizational support from Linking Learning to Life, CML was able to immediately provide extensive programming on a national level. Since inception, CML has created partnerships with and provided programming to: The Visiting Nurses Association, AmeriCorps, Burlington Children’s Space, Youth LAB, Transitional Services for Youth and Families, King Street Center, The Vermont Institute for Health and Wellness, Girls Move Mountains, and five public school districts in the Northeast. Through these partnerships CML has offered programs to hundreds of young people, including a large number of refugee and low-income youth. With a goal of broadening our reach, CML has also developed an Online Teacher Training program, and taught our curriculum to adults from five countries (i.e. Germany, Australia, Israel, Canada, and the United States), who have in turn taught mindfulness skills to hundreds of their own students. Through partnering with schools and youth serving organizations, CML helps youth to successfully navigate the negative impacts of stress, lead healthy lives, accomplish life-changing goals, and overcome barriers to success.

We have 2 passions: (i) the power of adaptive sports and (ii) ski racing safety. We provide grants and partnerships for both. The Kelly Brush Foundation was established by family and friends in 2006 after Kelly suffered a spinal cord injury while competing in an NCAA alpine ski race, leaving her paralyzed from the chest down. A 501(c)3 non-profit organization, our mission is: To empower people with paralysis to lead engaged, fulfilling lives through sport and recreation. To prevent ski racing injuries through a shared commitment to proper safety practices. For more information, please visit: www.kellybrushfoundation.org
