(CAHRD) Centre for Aboriginal Human Resource Development Inc. is the largest tenant at the Aboriginal Centre of Winnipeg Inc. CAHRD is a non-profit, human resource development organization that delivers Literacy, Education, Training and Employment services to the urban Aboriginal population of Winnipeg. CAHRD does this by enhancing the services and programs it provides through successful partnerships with Community, Government, Industry and other Post-Secondary institutions. At CAHRD, we believe in “Creating Futures One Family at a Time!”

General Info

CAHRD’s services are offered one-on-one in an effective learning environment - all designed to provide a uniquely individual experience. Programs and services include employment services, an adult learning centre, a post-secondary program, on-site daycare services, and an external project funding program. CAHRD offers these programs and services through a combination of in-house, community-based, organizational, and institutional partnerships. Central Employment Services: Employment Counsellors provide assistance to clients by identifying barriers that limit employment opportunities and creating an action plan to successfully attain career goals. Employment Counsellors offer career exploration options, referrals to education and training, and job search strategies. Staffing Solutions: In coordination with “Partners for Careers”, Employment Counsellors offer assistance to recent graduates to find meaningful employment in their occupation of choice. Staffing Solutions creates partnerships with private and public sectors to establish employment opportunities for clients. Aboriginal People With Disabilities Program: Employment Counsellors offer assistance to urban Aboriginal people with disabilities, with customized services including access to employment or training programs, and referrals to outside agencies with disability programs and services. Aboriginal Community Campus (ACC): ACC is a stand-alone, Adult Learning Centre that provides a holistic learning environment with year-round quality educational programming. Accredited through Manitoba Advanced Education and Literacy, programming at ACC ranges from basic literacy to assisting mature students achieve their high-school diploma. Neeginan College of Applied Technology: Neeginan College is CAHRD’s in-house technical and vocational post-secondary training division. CAHRD works closely in partnership with industry, business and training institutions to ensure that students are prepared for jobs in high-demand industries. Kookum's Place Daycare: Opened in 2002 to meet the needs of parents attending education or training programs, Kookum’s Place offers two fully licensed centres - the Preschool Centre and the Infant Centre. Kookum’s Place strives to operate by the Seven Sacred Teachings: Wisdom, Love, Honour, Courage, Honesty, Humility, and Truth. At Kookum’s Place Infant and Preschool Centres, each child’s journey is treated with respect, appreciating their cultural background, gender and developmental abilities. Neeginan Village: “Our Place” in Cree, Neeginan Village is a transitional housing complex that was built to accommodate the needs of students attending CAHRD training programs. Neeginan Village consists of 24 two-bedroom units, 4 one-bedroom accessible units and 15 three-bedroom units. All units offer full amenities, including an in-suite washer and dryer.
