Description
In addition to establishing a friendly and fertile habitat for honey bees, the Champlain College Apiary is a living laboratory, providing a space for the in-depth exploration of a fascinating and often misunderstood organism, its complex social structure, and the crucial interdependence it shares with the landscape in which it lives. The apiary was established with support from Randolph and Cynthia Nelson, parents of alumnus, Austin Nelson, the Vermont Community Foundation, and a gift from the senior class of 2013, who sought to leave the College and the community with a lasting legacy of ecological awareness and responsibility.
