Changing Gears is a community project, repairing bikes and providing training in bike maintenance. We're currently based in Circus Street, Brighton.
Changing Gears is a community bike repair and restoration project set-up by the charity Groundwork South. The project is run by Groundwork South’s team in Sussex and Surrey and a group of dedicated volunteers. We’re a friendly team of bike and community enthusiasts, from new-comers learning ‘on the job’ to qualified ‘bike doctors’ providing advice, guidance and training. With thanks to our landlords Cathedral Group we have been given a temporary home at the former market hall on Circus Street and plan to relocate to a new permanent premise this year. We provide training in bike maintenance (and can fix your bike for you too), restore and sell pre-loved bikes and provide volunteering and accredited training opportunities for people of all ages. We’re a not for profit organisation. The money we make helps sustain the project and allow us to provide training and volunteering opportunities. We help people to enjoy the benefits of cycling: improving skills, confidence and health as well as air quality, cycle safety and access to affordable transport. Cycling has positive effect on the environment too reducing waste, congestion, air pollution and CO2 emissions.
