Join Ariane Aramburo, Nikki Carvajal, David George and MJ Thim - weekdays from 5:30 - 7AM Channel 2 News in Anchorage went on the air in 1953 as KFIA ("First in Anchorage"). The station was then sold in 1954 to the Lathrop Company and the call letters were changed to KENI as it became the sister station to KENI radio. In 1959, Midnight Sun Broadcasting bought the station. In 1966, Channel 2 became the first station in Alaska to transmit in color. The station had joint primary affiliation with NBC and ABC until 1967, when it switched to ABC primary and NBC secondary. In 1970, the station became a full-time ABC affiliate when KHAR (now KIMO) took the NBC affiliate. In 1971, the two stations switched networks. In 1981, the station was sold to Zaser & Longston, became Channel 2 Broadcastine Company and the call letters were changed to KTUU. In 2008, Schurz Communications, Inc., based in Indiana, purchased KTUU and is now doing business as Northern Lights Media, Inc. KTUU has been No. 1 in the Anchorage, Alaska market for decades. The Channel 2 News team routinely wins regional and national awards. The National Press Photographers Association named KTUU Station of the Year in 2006, 2008 and 2010.
