Charles River Canoe & Kayak specializes in canoe, kayak, and stand-up paddleboard rentals in Boston (Allston/Brighton), Cambridge (Kendall Square), and in Newton: Nahanton Park) All locations have stable single kayaks, fun double kayaks, family-friendly canoes, and exciting stand-up paddleboards. We offer group and corporate outings, birthday parties, ten-person canoes, and much more! We also offer amazing guided tours like our Skyline & SunsetTours from Kendall Square, our Boston Harbor Tours from Kendall Square, our Barbeque Kayak Tours from Kendall Square and Allston/Brighton, and our Moonlight Canoe Tours from Newton/Auburndale. We a Paddling School that offers classes and sea kayaking trips.

How To Get to Charles River Canoe & Kayak

Walking from the Red Line (Kendall/MIT) Take the MBTA Red Line to Kendall/MIT. Walk straight through the Marriott Hotel lobby, exiting onto Broadway (not marked). Turn right on Broadway. At the first intersection (Third Street, opposite the "Steaming Globe" sculpture), turn left onto Third St. Take the first right onto Broad Canal Way. The Rental Center is located 100 yards down this street, at the corner where it turns right. Total walking distance is between one-quarter and one-half mile (5-10 minutes). Walking from the Parking Garage to the Rental Center Exit at Kendall Street (the garage entrance), and follow the signs for Canoe & Kayak @ Kendall Square. Walk 100 feet along the sidewalk (about 1 minute). The Rental Center is on the left. Driving from the MassPike (Eastbound) to the Parking Garage From the west, take the Mass. Turnpike to Exit 18 (Allston/Cambridge). Bear right after the tolls, following signs toward Cambridge/Somerville. The Doubletree Guest Suites Hotel will be on your right. Continue straight through two sets of lights (you will cross the river). Drive 1 mile through Cambridge, continuing across Mass Ave in Central Square. Immediately after passing Koreana Restaurant on the right, turn right onto Broadway. Continue 1 mile on Broadway. Immediately after passing the Marriott on your right, turn left at the lights onto Third Street. Take the second right onto Kendall Street, and the Parking Garage entrance will be on your right. Driving from I-93 (North or South) to the Parking Garage During construction of the Longfellow Bridge, take Exit 26 for Storrow Drive/North Station. Follow signs for Rt. 28 North (which may say Cambridge and Museum of Science). Once you pass the Museum of Science, turn left at the first light onto Land Boulevard. At the second light, turn right onto Binney Street. At the third light, take a left onto Third Street. Take the third left onto Kendall Street, and the Parking Garage entrance will be on your right. View Larger Map Driving from Downtown Boston to the Parking Garage During construction of the Longfellow Bridge, take Monsignor O'Brien Highway/Rt. 28 North past the Museum of Science into Cambridge (you can reach this route by following the detour signs from Leverett Circle). Turn left at the first light onto Land Boulevard. At the second light, turn right onto Binney Street. At the third light, take a left onto Third Street. In Central Square, soon after you pass Pearl Street, bear left onto Main Street. Turn left onto Portland Street. Take the second right onto Broadway. Immediately after passing the Marriott on your right, turn left onto Third Street. Take the second right onto Kendall Street, and the Parking Garage entrance will be on your right. Driving Directly to the Rental Center There is 10-minute parking for pickups and drop-offs at the Rental Center, but no long-term parking is available there. If you do wish to drive directly to the Rental Center, follow the appropriate directions for driving to the Parking Garage until you turn onto Third Street. After turning onto Third Street, turn onto Broad Canal Way instead of Kendall Street. The rental center is located 100 yards down this street, at the corner where it turns right. To reach the Parking Garage from the Rental Center, continue down Broad Canal Way and turn right onto Main Street, turn right onto Third Street, and take the second right onto Kendall Street. The Parking Garage is on your right.

General Info

Established in 1973 Our founder, Mike Farny, envisioned recreational use of the Charles River, a remarkable resource that was largely ignored by the Greater Boston community, and opened our original Charles River Canoe & Kayak location in Newton/Auburndale in 1973. Twenty years later, our Boston location in Allston/Brighton opened and, for the first time, allowed Bostonians to access the river that they'd walked along and across for generations. Since then, tens of thousands have paddled this stretch of river. In 2009 we opened a second rental center on the Charles River Basin, this time in Kendall Square, Cambridge. Paddlers experience spectacular skyline views right off our dock, whether renting or on a tour. In 2010 we opened a rental location in Newton's Nahanton Park on one of the longest uninterrupted stretches of the Charles.
