Description

Free integrative cancer clinic for underserved, low-income women battling cancer and poverty. Two clinical sites in Oakland and San Francisco serve 800 women a year. A corps of over 350 volunteers provide services and a small staff of 12 provide multilingual social services and cancer navigation.

General Info

1. We do not believe women cause their own cancer. 2. We do not know the actual causes of cancer but believe there are many factors involved, such as poverty, racism and environmental poisons. 3. We will do everything we can to prevent a woman from blaming herself for her cancer. 4. We believe our function is to support women in their own treatment choices. 5. We are committed to being open, non-judgmental, and caring. We are respectful of differences, especially in regard to class, race, culture, body size, sexual orientation, and spiritual beliefs. 6. We provide services for low income and poor women. Our services are designed to work along side those of an oncologist or primary care physician.

Girls Leadership
111 Myrtle St, Ste 101 Oakland , CA 94607 United States

We equip girls with the skills to exercise the power of their voice. At GL, we offer camps and workshops designed to teach girls, educators and parents the core practices of emotional intelligence, healthy relationships, and assertive self-expression. Taught by professional, salaried instructors, all GL programs use interactive lessons and theatre-based techniques to help girls connect with their emotions and practice the tools of building healthy, authentic relationships. The courses are age-appropriate and progressive, following girls’ developmental needs from grade school through high school.
