Why are Professional Photographers perceived to be so expensive? ~~MUST READ~~ There is a lot of confusion as to why photographers charge a seemingly extortionate amount for digitally taken images. You're not just paying for the actual photograph, you're paying for the hours of hard work that has gone into selecting and touching up the perfect image. For example: 30 minutes to 1 Hour is given to checking the camera, flashes, vehicles and all the back up equipment to make sure they are all working to ensure no time is wasted. 30 Minutes to 1 hour to set up the studio or travel to a agreed location. 15-30 minutes preparation time is essential at the start of a photographic session to make sure everything goes smoothly and according to plan. 1 – 8 hours depending on the type of shoot you require, this is your actual photo session. A normal shoot will take about an hour – 2 hours providing everything goes smoothly 1 hour to travel back from a location or how long it takes to clean the studio. 30-45 minutes, yes this long to upload RAW files to a computer after the shoot. 30-45 minutes to back up all images from the shoot before any work can be done to them, this is important in case something were to go wrong. 20+hours really is spent editing a diverse gallery of images to present to the customer. 1 hour is spent resizing images and uploading to an online gallery for the client to view. 1 hour checking over the final photographs and sorting through them to ensure that they are perfect. 30minutes-1 hour packaging and sorting through final products before delivery or collection. More time may be added if the client were to ask for consultation sessions after the shoot in order to see the images before buying this would add up to 3 hours. So all together there is roughly 35+ hours work for one set of photographs. So now, lets compare.. The next time you pay in excess of £100 to get your hair done, a pair of scissors only costs £2. Your builder just charged you £2,000 to put up your garden fencing but the wood cost £200 pound from B&Q, but you gladly pay a lot more to hire a professional to actually do the job. Next time you pay for a latte in a coffee shop think of how many cups you could make yourself with a jar of coffee that cost just the same. Taking everything into consideration, yes, of course you could pay a lot less by going to one of those chain stores; however , by choosing a custom photographer, you are choosing high quality Art a way of preserving the present for your future and future generations.
