The pub crawl started small with just a few friends looking for a fun way to celebrate the holiday and has grown to one of the larger events on the Northside of the city,” says Steve Johnson, co-founder and creator. “Each year participants have such a good time that they invite a friend, or coworker to join the following year, and we’ve had groups as large as 350 people.” The Official Chicago Pub Crawl covers various bars near the Northside of the city and spans from Wrigleyville into Lincoln Park then onto Old Town, and the Gold Coast. The event is free, but fundraisers have taken place in past years for various charities such as the Susan G. Komen 3-Day For The Cure Breast Cancer Walk. The theme for this year’s crawl is “Social Drinking,” seeking to reach out to people connecting with one another through their online social networking and mutual love of beer. Chicago-based custom design company Transit Tees has created the official concept, design, and apparel for the crawl. The event apparel allows crawlers to identify and connect with each other while celebrating the 14th annual crawl on the 12th of March. “One of the original participants of the Official Chicago Pub Crawl serves as our official mascot and dresses up each year in a leprechaun suit,” says Johnson. “At first it was simply for fun, but now it seems some people have come dependant on finding the leprechaun to know that they are on schedule and at the right bar.” “The Official Chicago Pub Crawl is a great way for people to join an event, let loose, and have fun on St. Patrick’s Day weekend, and there is no fee to join,” says Tim Gillengerten, media contact.
