Unfortunately these photos aren't the best, but this Instrument Cluster is out of a mid '80's Chevy Suburban. Mostly it needed a good scrub up as the Fuel / Oil / Temp & Volt gauges were working fine but needed the pointers replacing as the original plastic ones were all cracked and breaking apart. The Speedo needed a full overhaul and recalibration to make it accurate again I also replaced the pointer to match. The Tacho on the other hand was completely shot and the dial only had a span of 5000 RPM. I made up a custom dial to match the colour and font of the originals, replaced the movement with a modern Air Core AUTOMETER one, from the front it all appears pretty standard but now works like a new one. the Flexible Circuit Board on the back needed replacing as it was splitting apart. This Cluster was Done up to go into a Tow Car for Mark LC Hayes and his new LC TORANA which cleaned up at the summernats should hit the tracks pretty soon
I have been repairing and restoring Automotive and Industrial gauges for the past 25 years. I am a qualified Scientific Instrument Maker and have a secondary qualification as an Auto Electrician. Hopefully I will be able to upload some photos of various gauges that I am repairing showing what is involved and outlining some of the processes involved . It is a small part of the whole car restoration but quite important and one that is getting harder to achieve as more old blokes are either retiring or expiring!!!
